Govs to host Southern Illinois, Lipscomb

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University men's tennis team returns to action when it hosts Southern Illinois 3:45 p.m., Friday match before challenging Lipscomb in a noon, Saturday match at the Austin Peay Indoor Tennis Center.

The Govs enter the weekend with a 2-0 record, having defeated Chattanooga and Abilene Christian to open the young season.

Southern Illinois (0-3) enters the weekend without a win but is still a talented team.  The pairing of junior Jonny Rigby and sophomore Michal Kianicka finished last season undefeated at No. 1 doubles in Missouri Valley Conference play. 

Lipscomb (5-2) enters the weekend with wins in their last four matches. The Bisons are led by freshman Alejandr Manzanares, who owns a 4-1 record in singles action this spring, along with freshman Rob Mitchell, who has posted a 3-2 mark in singles play.  In doubles, the Bisons are led by the freshman pairing of Philippe Courteau and Alex Pavel who have accumulated a 5-1 mark at the No. 1 position.

After hosting the Salukis and Bisons, the Govs will hit the road to take on Louisville in a 5 p.m., Saturday Feb. 14, contest at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
