Lady Govs to open OVC play at home against Skyhawks and Redhawks

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University women's tennis team opens Ohio Valley Conference play when it hosts UT Martin in a 2 p.m., Friday contest before welcoming Southeast Missouri for an 11 a.m., Saturday match at the Austin Peay Indoor Tennis Center.

The Lady Govs enter the weekend with a 2-8 record, and are looking to build on some recent momentum.  In their last match, the Lady Govs cruised to a 9-0 victory over Coastal Georgia on Tuesday afternoon.

UT Martin (3-4) enters the weekend fresh off of a 5-2 victory over Evansville last Saturday.  The Skyhawks are led by sophomores Hitomi Naito and Sarah Candeloro.  Naito is the reigning OVC Freshman of the Year and Candeloro has posted a 5-2 record at No. 2 singles this season.

Southeast Missouri (0-9) travels to Clarksville having dropped a 7-0 decision to Southern Illinois last Saturday. The Redhawks are led by freshmen Maryia Kostyuk and Kateryna Stoianova.  The two natives of Kiev, Ukraine hold the No. 1 and 2 singles positions for SEMO.

After playing the Skyhawks and Redhawks, the Lady Govs will hit the road to take on Murray State in a 10 a.m., Tuesday contest at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts.
