CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay State University women's tennis team opened up its Ohio Valley Conference season against UT Martin, Friday, at the Austin Peay Indoor Tennis Center.  Despite a valiant effort the Lady Govs fell to the Skyhawks 6-1.

With the loss the Lady Govs fall to 2-9 overall, with a 0-1 mark in the OVC. UT Martin improves to 4-4 overall, with a 1-0 OVC record.

In doubles play for the Lady Govs, the senior pairing of Ornella di Salvo and Vanessa Tavares dropped a thrilling 9-8 (1) match at the No. 1 slot. The Skyhawks clinched the doubles point with 8-2 victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

In singles action, the Lady Govs were led by senior Jovana Karac who cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Florence Nicole at the No. 6 slot.  With the win, Karac extends her present winning streak to three matches.

In other singles matches, sophomore Hannah Tatlock dropped a hard fought 6-3, 6-3 match to Sarah Candeloro at the No. 2 position while sophomore Isabela Jovanovic fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. 

The Lady Govs return to action with an 11 a.m., Saturday OVC contest against Southeast Missouri at the Austin Peay Indoor Tennis Center.
