CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.– Austin Peay State University men's tennis team dropped its second consecutive Ohio Valley Conference match as the Govs fell to Tennessee Tech 5-2, Saturday, at the Governors Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Austin Peay falls to 12-7 overall, with a 7-2 mark in the OVC. TTU improves to 10-12 overall, with an 8-1 OVC record.
In doubles action, the Govs pairing of freshman Aleh Drobysh and sophomore Manuel Montenegro dropped an 8-6 decision at the No. 3 position. The Golden Eagles then clinched the doubles point when the pairing of sophomore Aaron Jumonville and senior Aleksas Tverijonas dropped an 8-4 match at No. 2.
In singles play, the Govs were led by Tverijonas, who earned a 6-3, 6-4 win against Eduardo Mena at the No. 2 position and Montenegro, who earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7 (4), 10-4 victory at the No. 5 slot. In other singles matches, Jumonville dropped a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision to Alberto Esteban at No. 3 while Drobysh claimed the first set before falling to Jorge Alfonzo 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 6 hole.
The Govs return to the court when they play Morehead State in the OVC Championships, 2 p.m., Friday, at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.                                    Â
