Full name:Â Julian James Terrell
Hometown: Nashville, TN
College: Vanderbilt University
Wife's name and how long have you been married? Kristian Gonzalez Terrell (June 2009)
Son's name and birthdate? Justice Terrell (Sept. 11, 2012)
Best player you ever played with? "Matt Freije, Shan Foster, Derrick Byars. All three were incredible players. Each had an ability to make each person around them better. Also three of the better leaders I have ever been around."Â
Most interesting teammate pro or college? "(Former Vanderbilt teammate) Alex Gordon. The guy was the funniest person I have ever been around. Also has a passion that can energize anyone."Â
Most interesting place you have ever lived? "Dubai. The things you see on TV don't do any justice to seeing it in real life. When you look at your city's tallest building, then imagine stacking it four times… that (Burj Khalifa) is what I was able to look at daily."
If you had to choose, what place outside this country would you want to live? "Portugal. It was the greatest city I played in overseas. The food was amazing and the people were even better. Living on the ocean wasn't too bad either."
What is your favorite movie? "Tough call. Could choose the traditional Scarface, insert anything Denzel, Dark Knight Rises, or The Town. Depends on the mood I'm in I guess. Great thing YouTube can fast forward me to the parts I like best."Â
What is your favorite sports movie? "Above the Rim. Easily. Although I recently watched The Program."Â
Most interesting book you have read? "No Easy Day (first-hand account of the mission that killed bin Laden). I've been in a country only knowing my 15 teammates; couldn't imagine being there secretly doing what they were. Creates a tremendous amount of respect."Â
Favorite part of coaching? "Results. You would think with so much basketball being played by so many people at all times, nothing would be new. I think that you learn something new every day. How many different screens can happen on any given play? How is it that they work? Someone imagined it would happen and it did.Â
Most influential person on you during your coaching and/or playing career? "Coach Kevin Stallings (Vanderbilt). He taught me to be a man first and a basketball player second."Â
What brings you to Austin Peay? "The opportunity. I have been extremely blessed. I think now is the time when Austin Peay will get back to its winning tradition and I am very excited to be a part of that."Â
What do you like to do in your spare time? "With the spare time I do have, I do enjoy being around my high school friends. Fifteen years later we are all still best friends who communicate on a daily basis. Getting our families together to grill out or just enjoy a good time happens a lot."Â
If you were not coaching what would you be doing? "That is a great question. Fortunately, the best part is I do not have to answer it."Â
