APSU concludes February slate with road match at Lipscomb

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's tennis team travels to the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center in Nashville to face Lipscomb, Friday. The two squads will begin the match with first serve at 7 p.m.

The Govs last faced the Bisons in the preseason at APSU's own Fall Invitational. Freshman Lidia Yanes Garcia defeated Lipscomb's Kate Kandyba, 6-1, injury en route to winning the tournament. She also teamed with sophomore Brittany Covington to earn a second win by injury over Kandyba and Thabile Tshatedi.

Austin Peay currently sits at 1-2 on the young season with a victory over Evansville, 6-1. On the other hand, the Bisons enter this weekend with a 4-2 record, with key victories over Butler and Harding and losses to Tennessee and Western Kentucky.

Friday, the Govs will continue riding the hot streak of Claudia Yanes Garcia, who is 3-0 in her first collegiate season. She, along with Covington, have paced the doubles contingent with a 2-0 record.

For Lipscomb, the Bisons have proven to be strong in doubles play following a sweep in that category over Butler. In individual action, Hannah Gamage has been the table setter with four wins all coming at the No. 1 position.
