CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay State University women's tennis team begins the Ohio Valley Conference portion of its schedule this weekend.
The Governors (1-5) await Eastern Kentucky, Friday morning at 10 a.m., before a Noon, Saturday dual at Morehead State.
Since claiming a season-opening victory over Evansville, APSU has fallen into a five-match losing streak. But it's a new season, with only conference opponents penciled in on the schedule from this point forward. Freshman Claudia Yanes Garcia leads the team with a 5-1 singles record, followed closely behind twin sister Lidia Yanes Garcia (4-2).
The Colonels (5-8) are also seeking a turnaround, currently in the midst of a three-match winless period. All five wins have come on their home court, led by Laura Argente's 12-7 record.
Morehead State (0-10) is searching for its first win of 2016 as of Friday morning. The Eagles have played a tough schedule to open the season, including dates with top-60 opponents Marshall and Indiana. In singles, Hayley Wild leads the way with four victories, but MSU is winless in doubles action (0-26).
