APSU seeks to clinch OVC Tourney spot at Jacksonville State, Saturday

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's tennis team will face Jacksonville State, 10 a.m., Saturday, in its last regular-season match, seeking to make a late push towards the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

APSU comes into the weekend ranked in the sixth and final spot to reach the postseason, while the Gamecocks are one position below. However, JSU has two matches remaining – playing Murray State before its match versus APSU – meaning Saturday's match could decide the final ticket to the tourney.

The Govs (6-9, 5-4 OVC) have had a successful run in OVC play for the previous three matches, gaining victories against Murray State, Tennessee State and Belmont. On the road, the Govs have also been successful in their matches against Southeast Missouri and Morehead State.

For Austin Peay, Lidia Yanes Garcia and Claudia Yanes Garcia hold the best individual records for the 2016 season, 12-3 and 12-2, respectively. Claudia currently has a five-match winning streak, while Lidia extended her run to three after an eighth OVC win.

Jacksonville State (6-15, 4-4 OVC) is coming off of a two match losing streak, with losses to Southern Illinois and Eastern Illinois. The Gamecocks players with the highest winning record for this season are Sadey St. Amant, 9-10, and Genevie Ulanday, 7-10. Conversely, none of the Gamecocks have winning streaks coming into the match with Austin Peay.

Austin Peay will be the visiting team for Saturday's match, held at the JSU Tennis Complex.
