First Day of Classes Marks Ramp Up to Opening Weekend
Classes began Monday morning at Austin Peay, but the day also marked the start of the Governors final run up to their opening day – Friday, Aug. 26 in a three-match event at East Tennessee (see below). Austin Peay will get four more practices at the Dunn Center before hitting the road, seeking to get the season off to a good start.
#TeamNetzler wins Red-Black Scrimmage
In front of a sizeable crowd, #TeamNetzler fell into a two-set hole but rallied to win the match in five sets (25-27, 22-25, 25-22, 25-14, 15-9), Sunday. Jenna Panning, Christina White, MiMi Arrington, Ginny Gerig, Alexandria Thornton, Ashley Slay and graduate assistant Travis LeBlanc teamed up for the victory.
New Tech Debuts at Scrimmage
The Governors were sporting new technology during Sunday's scrimmage, as they have been incorporating VERT into their practices. VERT is a wearable fitness monitor that gauges jump load data in order to improve play and performance. VERT tracks and shares real-time statistics during practice and events via Bluetooth and measures vertical height, average height, highest vertical and total jumps during a match.
Mott Makes Debut on Twitter
Speaking of new technology… or at least a member of the APVB family joining the technological revolution… head coach Taylor Mott has joined Twitter (@TaylorMott8). Her first tweet was used to defend her team in Sunday's scrimmage:
