The Governors women's basketball program has signed forward Shy Booker, combo guard Maggie Knowles and point guard Kasey Kidwell head coach David Midlick announced Tuesday.
Kasey Kidwell hails from Leicester, N.C., where she attends Carolina Day School playing for head coach Joe Carrington. Kidwell is a 5-7 well-rounded guard who averages 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals per game. Her high school play has earned numerous accolades including Carolina Athletic Association First-Team All-Conference, NCISAA All-State Team and Asheville Citizen Times All-Western NC Second Team honors. The talented high school senior also plays club basketball for the Lady Royals AAU program under coaches Joe Carrington and Jennie West.
Kidwell is the daughter of Aaron and Nancy, and has one older brother, Tyler (25). She was born August 19, 1999 and is the first person in her family to play a collegiate sport.
"Kasey is a talented, tough point guard who isn't going to back down from anyone," said Midlick. "She can defend, she can drive, she can get to the basket and she protects the basketball. The first word that comes to mind when I think about Kasey is she is a strong competitor."
Shy Booker a native of Charlotte, N.C. is entering her final season at Ardrey Kell High School where she has been prepped by head coach Jeff Buseick. Booker also played AAU ball for the NC Spartans under head coach Zachary Barjona.
Booker is the daughter of S. Kengie Miller, and has one sibling O'Shea Booker (21). She was born Nov. 19, 1999 and hopes to study marketing or information technology at Austin Peay.
"Shy, even at her size being 6-0, can come out and shoot the three," said Midlick. "She has good feet, she knows the game and is smart with the basketball whether she is playing inside or when she faces up out on the perimeter, which is a valuable asset for us."
Maggie Knowles is the only in-state addition for the Govs who made the decision to come to Austin Peay in the middle of her junior year, saying that she fell in love with the campus. Maggie is a senior at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro. where she was prepped under head coach Jennifer Grandstaff. Knowles has collected many awards during her high school career including All-district, All-county and All-freshman team selections.
Knowles is the daughter of Larry and Melissa and has three siblings Parker (16), Keri (21) and Martha (34). In addition to playing for her high school Knowles also played for the Tennessee Flight AAU program under the instruction of head coach Cliff Coleman.
"Maggie has been around our program a lot," said Midlick. "She knows how to play, and she has played in big games for her high school in the middle Tennessee area and for the Tennessee Flight AAU program. We are looking for her to come in and be able to play multiple positions for us. She is the kind of athlete that makes other players on the floor better because she is unselfish."
