CLARKSVILLE—After inclement weather forced a significant alteration of this weekend's schedule, Austin Peay State University women's soccer team will finally return to the pitch when they face LSU, 6 p.m., Sunday, at LSU Soccer Stadium.
MEET THE TEAMS
Thanks to senior Kirstin Robertson (two goals, including a game-winner) and sophomore Mary Parker Powell (four saves, one clean sheet), the Governors swept last weekend's competition against Western Kentucky (2-1) and Lipscomb (1-0). The Govs are one of three OVC schools to win three of their first four matches (Murray State and Belmont, with Tennessee Tech set to play its fourth match on Sunday) and seek their first four-match winning streak since Oct. 19-Nov. 2, 2012 (five matches).
The Govs face a tall order against an LSU (4-0-0) squad that has yet to surrender a goal in matches against Mississippi Valley State, Colgate, Lamar and George Washington—the first time in program history LSU has kept a clean sheet in each of the first four matches. Freshman Tinaya Alexander (three goals, four assists) and senior Zoe Higgins (three goals, one assist) lead a high-octane Tiger attack which has produced a dozen goals already.
Last Time Against the Tigers
This will be Austin Peay's first-ever meeting with LSU, and their seventh-ever meeting with an SEC foe. The Governors seek their first victory against the SEC, with their last attempt coming Aug. 30, 2015 against Ole Miss.
Keep An Eye On
- The Govs have put more shots on frame than all four opponents this season and have doubled the opposing teams shots on goal (30-15).
- Senior Lindsey Todd, in her final season between the posts, is poised to reach pretty rarified heights for an APSU keeper. She needs six saves to tie Nikki Filippone for fourth all-time, while her next clean sheet will give her sole possession of second all-time in shutouts.
- Junior McKenzie Dixon's next goal will be her 11th, tying her for ninth all-time with Natalia Ariza, Joceline Quiceno and Shelby Olszewski.
- Robertson's next assist will be her eighth, which would tie her for seventh all-time with Morgan Zigelsky.
Early-Season Ironmen
Sophomore Renee Semaan and freshman Jade Dauriat have played every minute for the Governors through four contests.
