From the dawning of the day, it was palpable: the Govs were back at Fortera Stadium.
After a whirlwind day on campus, the Governors met Tennessee State on the gridiron for the day's main event, and a capacity (and then some) crowd showed up to support the home side, in front of a national ESPN3 audience.
In a moment of pure class, the Govs and Tigers met at midfield for a pregame moment of silence for TSU's Christion Abercrombie, who suffered a serious head injury last week at Vanderbilt and remains in critical condition.
Between the crowd, the raw emotion and the excitement of being back on home turf, the Govs were fired up and it showed in a 49-34 win against Tennessee State to put the Govs in the win column in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Austin Peay's back on the road next week for a visit to Southeast Missouri. The Govs next appearance at the Fort is for the Oct. 27 Homecoming Game against Tennessee Tech.
