Women's Tennis looks to build on season's first win

CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay State University women's tennis team looks to build off its first win of the season at 4 p.m., Friday, at Dayton.

The Govs (1-3) split a pair of matches in Arkansas over the weekend, defeating Oral Roberts, but narrowly succumbing to Central Arkansas. Since the first match of the season, the Govs have been dealing with the loss of Claudia Yanes Garcia, a two-time Ohio Valley Conference First-Team All-OVC selection.

The Flyers (4-4) have been hot lately, winning their past four of five matches after dropping their first three of the season. Dayton has won each meeting between the schools in the past two seasons, but the score has been close each time.

It is especially unfortunate for the Govs that Yanes Garcia will miss the match since she is undefeated in all matches against Dayton in her career. Her twin sister Lidia Yanes Garcia also boasts an undefeated record in singles against Flyer opponents. Fifth-year senior Brittney Covington has also experienced success against Dayton, winning three of four overall matches the past two years, including being undefeated in doubles matches.
