CLARKSVILLE—Austin Peay State University track and field makes a return trip to Carbondale, Illinois for the Don DeNoon Invitational, hosted by Southern Illinois at the Southern Illinois Rec Center Fieldhouse.
Fourteen teams will join the Govs and host Salukis at this event, which will feature nearly 600 competitors. Also set to compete are a quartet of Ohio Valley Conference foes—Murray State, Southeast Missouri, SIU Edwardsville and UT Martin—as well as student-athletes from Arkansas State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Central Arkansas, Evansville, Lipscomb, Memphis, Ole Miss, Saint Louis and Western Illinois.
When last the Govs ventured to Carbondale, they emerged with some splendid marks, including junior Savannah Amato's win in the pole vault. The Delaware, Ohio native looks to reprise that performance this weekend, with junior Dascha Hix and senior Gretchen Rosch in the mix as well.
Another Gov looking for a repeat in the Land of Lincoln is freshman Denia Hill-Tate. The Nashville native was runner-up in the high jump in her first meet at SIU; she'll compete in the long jump and 60m hurdles this week.
Freshman Lennex Walker will flash her considerable skill in a myriad of events this weekend; she will compete in both the long and triple jump, as well as the 60m dash and 60m hurdles, an event she finished third in at last week's Thundering Herd Invitational. Another sprinter with a strong showing last week, sophomore Tymeitha Tolbert, will have another go this week in the 6om dash.
Freshman Sabrina Richman, who made her Austin Peay debut last week and banked a 57.79 mark at Marshall, looks to improve upon her current seventh-place standing in the OVC; less than seven-tenths of a second separates her from top-four standing in the league.
It was not immediately apparent whether live scoring would be kept for this weekend's meet. A complete recap will be found on LetsGoPeay.com at the conclusion of competition.
