Govs split a pair of matches at New Orleans Invitational on opening day

COVINGTON, La.– Austin Peay State University beach volleyball team opened their second season of collegiate competition with a victory over New Orleans, Friday, before falling to Louisiana-Monroe later in the afternoon.

The Govs showed impressive fight against the hosts, New Orleans, in their first afternoon match, winning two three-set thrillers as Ginny Gerig and Cecily Gable defeated Rachel Kuhn and Cara Sander of New Orleans 21-9, 14-21, 15-9 and Ashley Slay and Chloe Stitt defeated Ally Carr and Blessing Dunn 22-20, 17-21, 15-11. Caroline Waite and Brooke Moore swept Jordan Schumacher and Kaitlyn Grice 22-20, 21-19 enroute to the Governors' first win of the season.
