The Fast Five | March On

March 29, 2018

Because LetsGoPeay.com endeavors to keep up with the latest trends in internet and journalism, it's been brought to our attention that people enjoy lists. Every week during the academic year (which, y'all… it's wrapping up soon), we'll give you the Fast Five—five things to know or watch for around APSU athletics in the coming days.

31496

Mother Nature keeps playing with the Governor baseball schedule; the three-gamer against Southeast Missouri, scheduled for a Thursday start, has been pushed back to a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday. Friday night also will feature postgame fireworks at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Speaking of the diamond, a pair of Govs are making their season debuts in Major League Baseball this week, with Shawn Kelley (Nationals) and A.J. Ellis (Padres) on Opening Day rosters.

31518

Track and field splits up this week, with the bulk of the squad heading to Cape Girardeau for the Joey Haines Invitational and select Governors bound for Gainesville and the prestigious Florida Relays. Savannah Amato takes her top-15 pole vault ranking to Florida with an eye on securing an early qualification mark for the 2018 NCAA East Preliminary.

31529

Elsewhere on the diamond, Austin Peay softball returns to action at Cheryl Holt Field Friday (weather permitting, obviously) against Tennessee Tech in a doubleheader, with first pitch set for 3 p.m. While Kelly Mardones and Morgan Rackel have gotten the acclaim in the circle, winning two of the past three OVC Pitcher of the Week honors, Kelsey Gross has not allowed a run in her last 19.1 innings pitched.

31540

And finally, can men's golf keep up its recent hot streak at the Arkansas State Invitational? The Govs have finished in the top-three in three straight tournaments, the longest top-three streak since a nine-tournament stretch in 2012-13; individually, both Michael Busse and Alex Vegh have put together three straight top-10 finishes and look to make it four in Jonesboro.

That's this week's Fast Five. Good luck to all our teams in action this week and Let's Go Peay!
