Govs travel to unbeaten EKU for regular season finale

CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's tennis team plays for seeding in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, as the team travels to Eastern Kentucky for a 9 a.m., Friday contest.

The Govs (10-7, 6-2 OVC) will be at least the third seed in the OVC Tournament with a win. The Govs could slip to the fourth seed depending on the results of Jacksonville State, but also could rise to the second seed with a win and another Eastern Kentucky loss against Murray State.  However, the Colonels (12-8, 7-0 OVC) represent a daunting task for the Govs. Eastern Kentucky boasts three players who were named in the OVC Preseason Top 10 Rankings and know that with a win against the Govs and Murray State, will win the OVC regular season title.

Austin Peay comes off a loss in their last match against rival Murray State, but many matches that went in the favor of the Racers were close and tightly contested. Lidia Yanes Garcia also won the OVC Player of the Week award for the second time this season for performances against SIUE and Eastern Illinois the previous weekend and improved to 16-0 in No. 1 singles matches with a comeback win against Murray State's Claire Chang.

The Govs have not beaten the Colonels since the 2009-10 season, where the Govs beat EKU twice en route to their last OVC Championship. However, Lidia and her sister Claudia Yanes Garcia are both undefeated in singles matches against Colonel opponents in their careers.
