Social Media Rewind: Rainy Days

September 10, 2018

So maybe it wasn't the nicest weekend, weather-wise, that Austin Peay fans had ever experienced. Those that braved the monsoon on Saturday were treated to a football shutout of Presbyterian and JaVaughn Craig's impressive dual-threat performance. If you waded out to Morgan Brothers Soccer Field on Sunday, you saw a Morgan Drawdy brace in a win against Chattanooga. Maybe this week's weather will be better, but either way we've got last week covered in the Social Media Rewind.

Football

The day actually dawned rather nice. It's important to remember that after waiting nearly three hours to really get going.

By kickoff, the sky was the color of road tar (a concept all-too-familiar if you've spent any time on I-24 recently) and players, staff and the bravest of fans were ready to hunker down for an all-nighter if necessary to get the home opener in—especially with those slick Blackout unis to display.

Those that braved the weather were treated to an outstanding defensive effort and the dual-threat theatrics of quarterback JaVaughn Craig, who passed and rushed for more than 100 yards to lead the Govs to a 24-0 win against Presbyterian.

Soccer

Junior Mary Parker Powell stopped all seven shots she faced to keep a clean sheet in Friday's road win at Mercer, then sophomore Morgan Drawdy's brace captivated the fans who braved the weather at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field on Sunday in the Govs win against Chattanooga.

Volleyball

Another week, two more all-tournament honors for the Govs after a split at the Dunn Hospitality Invitational. Chloe Stitt and Ginny Gerig—who also earned her 1,000th career dig—make seven different Govs to earn all-tournament honors already in 2018.

Other Austin Peay Happenings

In the pros, Shawn Kelley has become a pivotal part of the Oakland A's bullpen as they make their postseason push.

Both men and women's golf opened the season at the GolfWeek Program Championship in Pawley's Island, South Carolina—freshman Micah Knisley was lurking near the top of the leaderboard after Sunday's Round One.
