CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay State University head soccer coach Naomi Kolarova has signed three in-state players during the early signing period for the 2020 season.
Last season's class saw Kolarova sign 11 players, including three international players. This year Kolarova stayed within the borders of the Volunteer State to find three new recruits to join the Governors.
"We are excited to announce these three signees for our 2020 class," said Kolarova. " Courtney [Steck], Hannah [Wilson], and Tori [Case] are all defensive-minded players that are technical, hard-working, and smart in their play. I expect all three to come in ready to contribute immediately and know they will deepen our roster in the defensive side of our game."
Meet the Governors
Tori Case
A Brentwood native, Case played under coach Brandon Mead at Ravenwood High School. In 2018, Case helped lead the Raptors to an 18-2 record and the State Semifinals. Case was an All-District selection in her junior and senior seasons, and was named the District 12-AAA Most Valuable Defensive Player in her senior season. Case will be the first Gov to come out of Ravenwood HS since Lindsey Todd, who wrapped up her career in 2017.
Why Tori chose Austin Peay
"I loved Austin Peay from the first time I saw the campus, I love the size and location. I felt at home there and I think that was most important to me. I think the coaching staff is amazing and I cannot wait to play for them next year. What it really came down to for me was that I could not imagine myself going anywhere else."
Thought from coach Kolarova
"Tori is a solid holding midfielder with experience on defense too. She is a player maker and is dangerous in space onset pieces."
Courtney Steck
A Smyrna native, Steck spent her high school career at Stewarts Creek High School. The defensive midfielder played her club soccer for the Tennessee Soccer Club U17 Showcase, where she helped lead them to a No. 1 ranking in the state league. Steck will be the first ever Governor soccer player to have attended Stewarts Creek HS.
Why Courtney chose Austin Peay
"I decided to attend Austin Peay based primarily on the academic reputation for my major [Nursing]. The moment I knew I wanted to commit to playing soccer was the first home game I attended. Everyone's family and friends came out to support the players and that is big to me."
Thought from coach Kolarova
"Courtney is an all-around athlete. She is strong and smart, and has experience in multiple positions so we are excited to see what see brings."
Hannah Wilson
A Knoxville native, Wilson prepped at Bearden High School under head coach Ryan Radcliffe. Wilson, a midfielder, helped lead the Bulldogs to the State Quarterfinals in 2017 and the Semifinals in 2018. She was an All-District selection in both her junior and senior season. Wilson will be the first Governor from Bearden HS since Katie Emig, who last played for the Govs in 2014.
Why Hannah chose Austin Peay
"I choose Austin Peay because I was excited to get the opportunity to play for a program that was very successful in their first year under a new coach, it showed me how the team is able to adapt quickly and work together. Also, I felt like I cold excel academically a Austin Peay and that I will be prepared to enter medical school after my four years as a Gov."
Thought from coach Kolarova
"Hannah is a technical and versatile player, who has experience in a few positions in the midfield and defense. She is composed and consistent on the ball."
