GOVS-COLONELS POSTGAME NOTES

FROM THE TOP

  • The Governors picked up their first overtime win since November 3, 2007 – when they beat Southeast Missouri, 34-31, in Cape Girardeau.
  • This is the first time the Governors have played an overtime game since September 27, 2008 – when they lost, 13-10, at Eastern Kentucky.
  • Austin Peay (No. 25 in the AFCA Coaches Poll) won for the third time in program history as a ranked team.

CAPTAINS AND COIN TOSS

  • Darion DeBrossard, Gorel Soumare, Elijah Brown, and Elijah Shepard were the captains at Eastern Kentucky.
  • Austin Peay lost the toss.
  • Eastern Kentucky deferred to the second half, and the Governors elected to receive.
  • Eastern Kentucky won the overtime coin toss, and elected to play defense.

SERIES UPDATE

  • The Governors picked up their second-straight win at Roy Kidd Stadium.
  • It was the Govs sixth win against Eastern Kentucky in the series; the Colonels still lead the series 46-6.
  • Austin Peay is now 3-24 all time in Richmond, Kentucky.

OFFENSIVE SPARKS

  • JaVaughn Craig became only the sixth quarterback in Austin Peay history to pass for 3,000 yards. Craig eclipsed the 3,000-yard mark on a 17-yard pass to DeAngelo Wilson in first quarter.
  • With his three TD throws at EKU, Craig has thrown 14 TD passes in OVC play and ended the day tied for the OVC lead in touchdown passes (TTU Bailey Fisher).
  • DeAngelo Wilson's 105 receiving yards gives him back-to-back 100-yard games for the second time this season – Mercer/ETSU and Tennessee Tech/EKU.
  • Austin Peay lost a fumble for the first time this season. They went without a fumble for their first 587 plays of 2019 and were one of two teams (Hampton) to enter the week without losing possession due to a fumble.

DEFENSIVE STANDS

  • Kordell Jackson's sixth interception of the season moves him into a tie for the second most interceptions in a single season. He is three interceptions behind Howell Flatt (1996), for the most in a single season.
  • Jackson's interception return of 8 yards gives him 159 interception return yards this season, the second best single season total in program history – he trails Flatt by 22 yards for the best single season total in program history.
  • Trent Taylor's interception makes this the Governors fourth game this season with multiple interceptions.
  • Pat Walker's interception gave the Governors their second three-interception game of the season – both coming in OVC play (Jacksonville State).

SPECIAL TEAMS SPRINTS

  • With his four PATs, Logan Birchfield has 199 points this season. Only two other players have scored 200+ points in a single season in program history, the most points in a season by a kicker is 203 (Stephen Stansell).
