CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay State University men's tennis team enters the busiest part of their schedule, playing three matches in only four days, beginning with a 1 p.m., Friday home contest, against Southern Indiana.
The Governors (2-6) have not played since Feb. 17 at Louisville, where they fell to the Cardinals.
The Govs did a receive a boost in that match, with Christian Edison, a Preseason Ohio Valley Conference Top 10 Player last season, returning after missing a few matches.
Hunter Sanders is also on a three-match win streak at No. 6 singles after not playing at Louisville.
Opponent Spotlight
The Govs faced off against the Screaming Eagles (4-1) last season on the road, winning 6-3 to claim their first win of the season. The match was played by NCAA Division II rules, meaning each doubles match counted individually. The Govs lost the doubles, 2-1, but the No. 1 pairing of Almantas Ozelis and Aleh Drobysh won their match. Ozelis, Drobysh, Timo Kiesslich, Jacob Lorino, and Evan Bottorff all won singles matches to claim the match for the Govs.
After the USI match, the Govs will head on the road to take on Kennesaw State for another 1 p.m. match, Saturday. The Owls (2-3) swept Belmont in their most recent match and also defeated the Govs last season, 7-0. Edison and Chad Woodham took their singles matches to three sets, but could not come away with the win. In addition, Kennesaw State will provide live stats for the match.
The Govs head further south to take on Bethune-Cookman, 2:30 p.m., Monday. This current crop of Govs have never played the Wildcats (1-2). The Wildcats lost their most recent match against Florida Gulf Coast and their lone win came against Stetson at home.
