REDHAWKS-GOVS POSTGAME NOTES

FROM THE TOP

  • Draylen Ellis (six touchdown passes) set the school record for single-game passing touchdowns and Baniko Harley (four touchdown receptions) tied the school record for single-game touchdown catches.
  • The Govs played overtime for just the 15th time in program history.
  • Austin Peay has won back-to-back overtime games for the first time in school history.
  • This was Austin Peay's first double-overtime game since 2007 against Southeast Missouri.

CAPTAINS/COIN TOSS

  • Kordell Jackson was the Governors captain for a third straight game.
  • Austin Peay won the toss and deferred to the second half.
  • In overtime, Austin Peay won the toss and elected defense.

SERIES UPDATE                                            

  • This was the 25th meeting between the Redhawks and Governors
  • This was just the second time in series history the Govs and Redhawks needed overtime to sort out the result.
  • Austin Peay defeated Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau for the first time since 2009.
  • The win gives Austin Peay back to back victories against the Redhawks for the first time since winning four straight from 1965-92.

OFFENSIVE SPARKS

  • For the second straight game, Brian Snead's first touch found pay dirt. On Austin Peay's second possession after a blocked punt, Snead took a handoff and bounced left and ran 41 yards for a score.
  • Eugene Minter set career highs in receptions (5) and yards (61) while also hauling in his first touchdown reception as a Gov.
  • Ellis is the first Gov to throw 40 passes in a game since Jake Ryan (2012)
  • Jay Parker set career highs in receptions (4) and yards (76) while also catching his first career touchdown pass as a Gov.
  • Snead finished with 128 yards on the ground, becoming the first Gov since Kentel Williams (2017) with back-to-back 100-yard rushing games.

DEFENSIVE STANDS                                         

  • Elijah Culp hauled in a pair of interceptions, the first Gov since Kordell Jackson (2019) with multiple picks in the same game.
  • Senior Johnathon Edwards made a career-high nine tackles.
  • Senior Terrell Lucas now has 3.5 sacks and five hurries in six games after a sack and two hurries against the Redhawks.
  • Freshman Tyqaze Leggs made a career-high two stops behind the line of scrimmage.

SPECIAL TEAMS SPRINTS

  • Jackson recorded his first punt block as a Governor, and the first by a Gov since Demarion Allen (2016).
  • Punter Matt Rigney averaged 40.2 yards per punt, a career single-game high.
