CLARKSVILLE – Austin Peay State University men's tennis team takes the court for the first time in 2022 with an in-state clash against Lipscomb, Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Richland Country Club in Nashville.

The Governors return five student-athletes from last season's team and are led by sophomore Frederic Schlossmann, a Second Team All-OVC selection in the spring. Schlossmann won four singles matches on the Govs' top two lines last season, while earning a trio of doubles victories alongside Anton Damberg on the No. 1 doubles court.

Seniors Oliver Andersson and Damberg return to the Govs' lineup this season. The duo combined for six singles victories in the spring and have been consistent presences throughout their respective careers, combining for 65 wins since the fall of 2018.

Junior Thiago Nogueira and sophomore Gabriel Nolasco Pozo round out Austin Peay's returners this season. The duo won a pair of matches together last spring, while Nolasco Pozo picked up four wins in the fall.

In addition to their five returners, the Govs' lineup also consists of four freshmen who each found success in the fall. Hogan Stoker led APSU with a 4-1 singles record, while Lachlan Laner went 3-1 in doubles across the Govs' three tournaments. They are joined by Tom Bolton and Giovanni Becchis who picked up a pair of wins together in doubles during the fall.

Austin Peay opens its season in the Music City against a familiar foe in Lipscomb. The two future ASUN Conference opponents have faced one another each season since 2009, with Saturday's match being the 17th meeting since 2004.

Lipscomb returns seven players from its 2021 team that finished second in the ASUN's North Division with a 9-7 (4-2 ASUN) record, including Pedro Uribe, a Second Team All-ASUN recipient.

The Bisons fell 4-3 in their season opener to Butler, Jan. 23, and host Belmont at 6 p.m., Friday, before Saturday's match against APSU.

Following its contest with Lipscomb, Austin Peay kicks off a three-match homestand beginning with an 11:30 a.m. match against Cumberland, Feb. 11, followed by a 7 p.m. match against Oakland City the following day. Both matches will be played at the Evansville Tennis Center in Evansville, Indiana.
