CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Lyle Miller-Green had five hits and five RBI, including a pair of home runs, but Austin Peay State University's baseball team fell to Illinois State, 14-13 in 10 innings, Sunday on Joe Maynard Field at Raymond C. Hand Park.
Miller-Green finished the day 5-for-6 with two home runs, a double, and five RBI. He hit home runs in his first two at-bats, and his seventh-inning two-run double allowed the Govs to take a 13-12 lead.
Illinois State (2-1) tied the game by manufacturing a run in the eighth. After a leadoff walk, the Redbirds moved the runner with a sacrifice bunt, and a passed ball put the runner on third with one out. Right fielder Auggie Rassmussen drove in the run with a sacrifice fly.
Austin Peay (1-2) could not capitalize in its half of the ninth inning when center fielder Clayton Gray doubled with one out. ISU reliever Elijah Dale struck out a batter and induced a ground out to end the threat.
Redbirds third baseman Greg Nichols broke the tie in the tenth with a leadoff home run. Austin Peay nearly won the game, but a potential two-run home run turned into a foul ball when it sailed right of the right field pole. Dale ultimately struck out the batter and induced a line out to end the game.Â

Illinois State's Dale (1-0) picked up the win after working through four innings. He struck out eight of the 19 batters he faced and allowed three runs on five hits.
Rassmussen and Nichols each had three RBI to lead the Illinois State offense. First baseman Adrian Flores was 4-for-6 with a home run and two RBI.
Austin Peay wraps up its four-game home stand when it hosts Southern Illinois (2-2) in a 3 p.m., Tuesday contest at Raymond C. Hand Park.
How It Happened
Miller-Green hit his two home runs in the game's first three innings. A two-run shot in the first got the Govs within a run, 3-2. Two innings later, a solo home run tied the game, 5-5.
Second baseman Jaden Brown followed Miller-Green's second home run with a solo shot of his own in the third. The back-to-back home runs gave Austin Peay a 6-5 lead after a wild three innings.
Austin Peay extended its lead to 10-5 with a four-run fourth inning. Center fielder Clayton Gray doubled to start the inning and right fielder Garrett Martin hit the Govs fourth homer of the day, extending the lead to 8-5. Third baseman Ambren Voitik singled then Miller-Green singled to center field on a well-executed hit-and-run, the throw to third base ended up in the Govs dugout, allowing Voitik to score and Miller-Green to reach third base.
Illinois State responded with a four-run frame of its own in the sixth. Rassmussen, shortstop Luke Cheng and Nichols hit three consecutive doubles to drive in the four runs and take a 12-10 lead.
The Governors regained the lead with a three-run seventh inning. Jon Jon Gazdar opened the frame with a single and catcher Trevor Conley walked. Gazdar took advantage of a wild pitch to advance to third and scored when Conley stole second base and the throw ended up in center field. After Martin earned a walk, Miller-Green hit a two-run double for the Govs final runs and a 13-12 lead.

16 – A day after posting 14 hits, Austin Peay's offense notched 16 hits in the finale. Seven Govs starters notched hits and pinch hitter Harrison Brown chipped in a ninth-inning single. Joining Miller-Green with a multi-hit effort were Gray, Voitik, Brown, and Jon Jon Gazdar with two hits each.
Governor of the Game
It was a day of fives for Lyle Miller-Green. His five-hit performance was the first by a Govs hitter since Gino Avros' six-hit outing at Southeast Missouri in 2021 and he also drove in five runs. Meanwhile, he also was the Govs starting pitcher and went five innings and was in line for the win when he departed.

- Miller-Green's five-day was the 30th game of five or more hits by a Governors batter since 1996.
- Three of the Govs home runs went for more than 400-feet. Miller-Green led the way with a 440-foot blast on his second home run. Martin's shot went 414 feet. Jaden Brown's solo shot traveled 413 feet.
- For the second straight game, Austin Peay scored in four consecutive innings. Saturday it was nine runs in the fourth through seventh innings. Sunday it was the game's first four innings and accounted for 10 runs.
