ATLANTA – After averaging 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 70 percent from the field in Austin Peay State University women's basketball team's inaugural trip to the ASUN Conference Women's Basketball Championship, Shamarre Hale was named to the ASUN Championship All-Tournament Team Saturday.
The ASUN's Unanimous Sixth Player of the Year and a Second Team All-ASUN selection, Hale is the first Governor since Whitney Hanley (2012) to be named to an all-conference tournament team and is the 27th in program history.
Hale helped lead Austin Peay to a 73-55 victory against Eastern Kentucky in the ASUN quarterfinals with a team-best and career-high 23 points. The Chicago native also matched her season's best outing with 13 rebounds as the Governors earned their first postseason win as a member of the ASUN.
Hale made seven of her 10 attempts against EKU– her 22nd-straight game making at least 50 percent of her shots from the field. Her nine free throws and 10 attempts also were career-best marks, while her nine points at the charity stripe are the fifth-most by a Governor in a postseason game.
Hale's plus-32 plus/minus in Sunday's win against the Colonels was a career-best mark and brought her season's total to a team-best plus-120.
The former Wright State transfer led Austin Peay with 14 points in Wednesday's semifinals game against No. 23 Florida Gulf Coast and made seven of her 10 attempts for the second-straight contest.
Her semifinal performance against the Eagles was highlighted by an eight-point third quarter where she went 4-for-5 from the field.
Hale led Austin Peay with 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game across her first season as a Governor. Her 69.1 field-goal percentage is on pace to break the program record of 65.5 percent set last season by APSU alumna, D'Shara Booker.
The 6-0 center scored in double-figures in eight of her last nine games and in 14 of her last 16 contests. Her four double-doubles during the regular season also led the team.
Hale and the rest of the women's basketball team awaits its postseason fate. The Govs will find out later this weekend if they earned the program's first-ever berth in the Women's National Invitational Tournament. The WNIT participants are announced Sunday afternoon, with the full bracket announced Monday.
