CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University men's tennis team hosts Lipscomb and Eastern Kentucky in its first ASUN Conference home matches. The Governors face the Bisons in a 1 p.m., Saturday match before taking on long-time rival Eastern Kentucky at 10 a.m., Sunday, at the Governors Tennis Courts.
Austin Peay (3-9) dropped a pair of matches in its first weekend of ASUN Conference play. The Govs fell to Queens 6-1, Friday, before dropping a 5-0 decision to No. 71 North Florida, Sunday.
Sophomore Tom Bolton leads the Govs with six singles wins this season, with a quartet of those victories coming from the No. 3 position. Freshmen Sota Minami and Javier Tortajada are second on the team with five wins, primarily coming from the No. 1 ad No. 4 courts.
Bolton and fellow sophomore Giovanni Becchis lead the Govs' doubles pairings with a 5-4 record, while Tortajada and Minami are 2-3 this spring while exclusively playing the No. 2 position.
The Govs look to end a four-match losing streak to Lipscomb (4-9, 1-1 ASUN). APSU dropped a 5-2 decision to the Bisons in Nashville last season and will look to earn their first win against them since the 2012 season.
Lipscomb fell to No. 66 Liberty, 7-0, Sunday in their last match after earning a 4-3 win against Eastern Kentucky in the ASUN opener.
Following their match against the Bisons, the Govs host long-time foe Eastern Kentucky for the first time since the 2017 season. This season also is the first in the ASUN for EKU, after the program was disbanded following the 2018 season. APSU has won six of its last nine meetings against the Colonels, including in a semifinal of the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Tennis Championship.
The Governors remain home for a pair of matches next week, beginning with a 2 p.m., Friday match against Stetson. APSU then hosts Florida Gulf Coast at 1 p.m., Sunday, in its regular-season home finale.
