Women’s Tennis Drops Pair of 6-1 Matches to Open 2024 Season

PADUCAH, Ky.  – Austin Peay State University's women's tennis team dropped a pair of 6-1 matches to Murray State and Belmont, Friday-Saturday, at the McCracken County Indoor Tennis Center.

The Governors were swept in doubles during their match against the Racers, Friday, and claimed their lone point of the match in a three-set victory by Pauline Bruns – who earned her first-collegiate victory in the result – after defeating MSU's Natalie Slezakova, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

Asia Fontana battled in her match against Emma Honore, splitting the first two sets, but fell in the deciding frame, 6-2.

The freshmen Bruns and Luca Bohlen claimed APSU's first doubles victory of the season in a 6-0 victory against Belmont's Vesa Gjinajand Hana Sokolovic, Saturday, with Bruns also earning another singles win against Sokolovic, 6-2,6-3, to win the singles point. 

The Governors continue their season-opening road trip against Atlantic Coast Conference foe Louisville in a 2 p.m., Friday contest in the Derby City.
