CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Austin Peay State University's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Atlantic Sun Conference opponent Stetson, Friday, at the Winfield Dunn Center.
Sarah Carnathan paced the Govs with a ten-kill performance, and Maggie Duyos led with 16 assists.
Stetson took the lead early in the first set, leading the Govs by ten at 18-8. The Governors cut their deficit to as few as six at 23-17, but Stetson took the 25-17 first-set win.
The Governors began the second set on a 6-1 scoring run, which included two kills from Abby Thigpen. The Hatters responded with a 6-0 run, giving them an 8-6 lead on the Govs. A kill by Carnathan tied the set at 10, but Stetson's 8-2 run gave them the seven-point lead at 18-11. The Governors would get within three of their opponent at 24-21, but they were unable to fight off the Hatter set point as Stetson took the 25-21 second set win.
The third set began with back-and-forth action, with a kill from Carnathan and a Hatter kill tied to the set at 12. The Govs earned the set's following four points, giving them the 16-12 lead. The Hatters responded with a 7-3 run, which included five kills to tie the set at 19. Stetson began to pull away from the Governors as three consecutive kills and a Governor attack error gave them the 23-19 lead. The Govs got within three of the Hatters at 24-21, but Stetson took the 25-21 set win for the 3-0 ASUN win.
The Governors are back in action tomorrow at 7 p.m. as they face Florida Gulf Coast at the Winfield Dunn Center.
