Govs Head to the Sunshine State for Matchup Against the Ospreys

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. –  Austin Peay State University's women's basketball team finishes up its three game Atlantic Sun Conference road trip with a 6 p.m. (CT), Wednesday game against North Florida at UNF Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. 

Austin Peay (11-12, 4-5 ASUN) enters the contest after defeating Queens, 63-38, in Charlotte, North Carolina last Saturday. Shamarre Hale led the Govs with 16 points, marking her 10th consecutive game scoring double digits. La'Nya Foster grabbed a team high nine rebounds as Anala Nelson led with three assists. 

North Florida (7-15, 1-7) fell to Central Arkansas last Saturday, 58-44. Alexa Washington led with 10 points as Emma Broermann led with eight rebounds. 

Austin Peay leads the all-time series against the Ospreys, 1-0. The last meeting of the two teams was a 77-35 Governor win on Feb. 9 in the Winfield Dunn Center.

  • Head Coach Brittany Young has won 47 games during her career as the Governors head coach with the 61-50 victory against Kennesaw State on Feb. 1. This win made her the winningest head coach in their first three seasons. 
  • The Govs are first in the ASUN with their 44.3 field-goal percentage and second with their 3.7 blocks per game. 
  • Shamarre Hale is third in the ASUN 25 blocks and 1.14 blocks per game. She is fourth with 7.1 rebounds per game.
  • Anala Nelson has started in 52 consecutive games and started every game she has played in college. She also was the first player in program history to receive ASUN All-Freshman Team honors and the first to be named to a conference all-freshman team since 2003 when the Govs were a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.     
  • Nelson ranks third in the conference with 87 assists and 3.8 assists per game. 
  • Cur'Tiera Haywood earned her 1,000th career point during the Jan. 25 game against Stetson. The graduate transfer leads the Govs with 29 three pointers. 
  • The Govs lead the all-time series against North Florida, 1-0.
  • Austin Peay won the only game played against the Ospreys last season in a 77-35 decision at home. 

The Ospreys Scouting Report        

Their Head Coach: Erika Lambert is in her first season at the helm of the North Florida women's basketball program. She is 7-15 in her first season and 1-7 in ASUN play. 

2023-24 Record: 7-15, 1-7 ASUN

2022-23 Record: 7-20, 4-13 ASUN

Last Season Result:  Lost to Eastern Kentucky, 83-71, in their final game of the season.

Notable Returner:  Lyric Swann is in her senior season at North Florida after averaging 14.2 points and 4.2 assists last season. In the 2023-24 season, Swann averages 10.5 points and 3.1 rebounds with a season high of 19 points against Piedmont, Dec. 13. Swann was a ASUN Preseason All-Conference Selection ahead of this season. 

Notable Newcomer: Jayla Adams comes to Jacksonville after spending two seasons at George Mason. Adams averages 10.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game with a season high of 20 points coming at South Florida, Nov. 19.
