JONESBORO, Arkansas – Behind a final-round 66 from senior Jack Dyer, Austin Peay State University men's golf team earned runner-up honors at the Arkansas State-hosted Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate at RidgePointe Country Club.
The Govs used a final-round 12-under par 276 to move up one spot and secure second-place, seven shots clear of Incarnate Word. The 12-under score was the best team score of the third, and best 18 holes posted by the Govs during the fall campaign, and best by the Govs since a 275 during the second round of the San Destin Classic, Sept. 23, 2025. Host Arkansas State won the event, while Nicholls and Murray State rounded out the top-five.
The final round belonged to Dyer, who birdied four of his first six holes and never looked back en route to one of the best rounds of his Austin Peay career. Dyer finished third overall at 210 (73-71-66), and has now fired a final-round 66 in back-to-back tournaments. Dyer also tied for the tournament-high with 17 birdies, including eight in the final round.
Junior Parker Elkins equaled his 54-hole career-best with a 212 (70-73-69); the Clarksville native earned his first career top-10 finish as a Gov, placing sixth overall, thanks in part to a bogey-free front-nine in both the first and third rounds.
Freshman Tyson Seyler had the birdie-finder working overtime this week, finishing second among Govs and tying for fifth in the field in birdies with 16; he fired a two-under 214 (70-74-70) to finish tied for 11th for the second-straight tournament. Senior John Mark Mills cut his strokes each round, finishing with a 220 (76-73-71); his final-round 71 was his best individual round since last season's home tournament in April.
Senior Seth Smith rounded out the lineup for the Govs, shooting a 230 (76-79-75). As the individual, Zach Olsen shot a 221 (70-77-74), finishing 34th, one shot behind Mills. Olsen was tracking toward a red number for the day before a triple-bogey on his final hole of the tournament—the 425-yard par-4 at No. 16, the third-toughest hole in the field—took him from one-under to two-over for the day.
The Govs return to action next week for their fall finale at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, hosted by ETSU, at the Blackthorn Club in Johnson City.
