Women’s Tennis Heads to Calloway County to Face Rival Racers

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University women's tennis prepares for its third fall tournament when it heads to the Bluegrass State for the Battle of the Border against rival Murray State, Friday and Saturday, at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Kentucky.

Last time out, the Governors earned five wins at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regionals. Sati Aubakirova earned team-best two wins at the event, with a doubles win alongside Yi-Ching Huang on the second day of the tournament. She also earned a straight set win against Chattanooga's Emma Pedretti.

The Governors have combined for 20 wins throughout the early part of the fall season, with 13 victories coming in singles and seven in doubles.

Huang leads APSU with four singles wins, while Cocomi Saito is second on the team with three. In doubles, Huang and Aubakirova have a team-best 3-1 record in singles, while Cocomi Saito also is tied for a team-best three wins in doubles play while playing with three different partners.

Austin Peay and the Racers have played annually – with the one exception being the COVID-19-shortened 2020 spring season – across each season of APSU's digital record-keeping era. The Governors earned a 6-1 win against the Racers in their fourth match of the 2026 spring season in the teams' last meeting.

APSU's second and third-most recent wins against the MSU came in the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Tennis Tournament Semifinals in 2021 and 2022. The 2022 win featured the Govs coming back from a 3-1 deficit with Yu-Hua Cheng – current graduate assistant for the tennis programs – which secured the Govs' fourth-straight trip to the OVC title game, while the third-most recent victory was a 4-0 sweep for APSU in Evansville which was the precursor to the program's OVC Championship win against Southeast Missouri.
