Governors Welcome Chargers to The Vault for Home Opener

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University's women's basketball team is at home for the first time this season when it hosts Southeastern Baptist at 6 p.m. Friday on Gary Mathews Court at F&M Bank Arena.

The Governors are coming off a season-opening 62-47 win on the road at Campbell on Monday. In the contest, Senior guard Veronaye Charlton led the Govs in scoring with 17 points, while also recording a career-high six steals. She was not the only Gov to score in double figures, as Clearia Peterson put up 12, while also collecting 11 boards for Austin Peay's first double-double of the season.

Austin Peay outscored the Fighting Camels in all points-off categories, scoring 30 off turnovers, 46 in the paint, 13 on second chance, 16 on fast breaks, and 12 off the bench. The name of the game on Monday was defense, as Campbell turned over the ball 31 times to Austin Peay's 10. It was also the Governors' first time coming away with 20 steals a game since setting the program record of 26 against Bethel on December 25, 1995.
