CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University's women's tennis team opened the annual APSU Fall Tournament with five total wins, including four in singles play, Friday, at the Governors Tennis Courts.
Beginnings with doubles against Western Kentucky, Sati Aubakirova and Yi-Ching Huang combined to defeat WKU's Madison Hill and Andra Sirbu, 6-1.
Heading to singles play, the Governors earned a pair of straight-set wins, with Huang defeating Madueno, 6-2, 6-5. Peyton Duckett then earned a 6-3, 6-4 win against Sirbu. Both Aubakirova and Cocomi Saito came back to earn three-set wins against their opposition from Bowling Green, Kentucky, with Aubakirova dropping her first frame, 7-6, before then coming back to win a decisive 6-2 and 10-2 second and third set, respectively. Saito split her opening sets, 2-6, 6-3, before then winning an extended 10-point tiebreaker, 11-9.
Austin Peay is back in action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. The Govs begin the morning with doubles against Chattanooga, followed by singles against the Movs. The Govs then will face the Mocs and Murray State in the afternoon flights.
