As a junior in 2008 ? Mantooth appeared in 28 games, including 16 starts... made 20 appearances (11 starts) on the mound... finished season with 7-3 record and 6.17 ERA... as a starter posted a 5-3 record and 7.08 ERA... as a reliever, he was 2-0 with 3.46 ERA... was team’s No. 1 in season-opener against Valparaiso, Feb. 23, and went four innings, allowing five runs (four earned) in no decision... won three consecutive starts after returning to No. 3 role... posted quality start against Illinois State, March 2, surrendering three runs over seven innings for season’s first victory... was tagged for 11 hits by Lipscomb, March 11, but escaped with win as he allowed only five runs (four earned)... third straight victory came against Milwaukee, March 16, again surrendering nine hits in 6.2 innings and again allowing only four runs (three earned)... saw three-game win streak stopped with season’s first loss at Eastern Kentucky, March 22, after allowing four runs on four hits, five walks and four hit batsmen... picked up victory in solid appearance against Morehead State in which he allowed just two runs over seven innings while striking out a season-high seven batters... also battled with control at Samford, allowing five hits, walking four and hitting three batters in loss... moved up to No. 2 spot for Tennessee Tech series but was unable to regain control and was tagged for seven runs over 3.1 innings in loss... continued struggles at Southeast Missouri, April 27, and was lifted after two innings... picked up victory in season’s final start, May 4, against Tennessee Martin... made debut as regular middle reliever, May 7, against Evansville and made seven appearances, tossing 12.1 innings and surrendering six runs (4.38 ERA)... picked up relief victories against Evansville, May 7, and Murray State, May 16, during final stretch... also made two appearances in OVC tournament and did not surrender a run in either showing... played eight games (five starts) as the team’s designated hitter or first baseman... at the plate he finished the season with four hits in 14 at-bats... had a hit in each game of the Mississippi State series, April 1 and 2, starting as the designated hitter in game one and at first base in game two... ran hit streak to three games with hit against Morehead State, April 5, going 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored... season’s final hit came against Middle Tennessee, May 5, an RBI single.
As a sophomore transfer in 2007 ? Grew into role as APSU’s No. 3 starter, posting 8-4 record... was 4-0 in May with 2.30 earned-run average... in fact, was Govs’ winning pitcher in 3-2 OVC tourney-clinching victory... in that contest, allowed just five hits and two runs while fanning six and walking only one in 7.1 innings... watched overall ERA shrink from 6.33 on March 24 to 3.53 entering NCAA Nashville Regional... had five-game win streak winning last four regular-season contests and the OVC tournament win... his eight wins ranked third best in OVC behind teammates Shawn Kelley and Matt Reynolds... his ERA was sixth best among OVC hurlers... got off to slow start in first season as Govs’ pitcher... incurred 4-2 loss in first APSU start against Ball State, March 4... allowed nine hits in 6.1 innings... gained first APSU win his next time out with 5-4 win against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, allowing nine hits and three earned runs in 7.2 innings... also was winning hurler in Governors’ 7-5 win at Furman, allowing seven hits and five earned runs in 7.1 innings... in first OVC start, was roughed up at Jacksonville State, permitting seven hits and six runs in just two innings in 13-4 defeat... in his next OVC performance, gained first conference win with 28-10 win at Morehead State, permitting six hits and four runs in six innings... in season’s only complete game, was hard-luck loser in 4-1 decision against Samford after limiting the Bulldogs to just six hits and two earned runs in nine innings... however, that initiated a streak that saw him limit opponents to two or fewer earned runs in eight straight starts... at Tennessee Tech, he failed to gain a decision, despite allowing just six hits and one earned run in 6.1 innings... he also failed to gain a decision against Southeast Missouri when he departed with 10-2 lead after pitching six innings in which he allowed just one earned run and five hits... he finally gathered that elusive fourth win the next week against UT Martin, allowing just six hits and one run in 7.2 innings in the 4-2 triumph... he was even more impressive against Eastern Illinois, allowing just four hits and two earned runs in an 8-2 victory... he made it three straight wins with 15-3 win at Murray State, allowing seven hits and two runs over six innings... Mantooth then tossed APSU’s OVC regular-season title clinching victory, allowing only four hits and one run in seven innings in the Govs’ 9-2 win against Eastern Kentucky... in NCAA’s Nashville Regional suffered loss in Govs 11-5 elimination game loss to Vanderbilt, allowing six runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings... also started 11 games as designated hitter and seven at first base... finished season with .293 batting average with nine RBI.

As a redshirt freshman in 2006, made eight appearances, compiling a 7.04 ERA in 7.2 innings pitched, walking two and striking out eight... made two appearances in Big East play, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out two... recorded final out in Cardinals win against Eastern Kentucky, March 29.

Under head coach Bob Mantooth, his father, batted .426 with 36 RBI and 10-2 with 76 strikeouts as a senior... won 26 games in four years, with a 1.60 ERA, both second-best in school history... was all-state, all-region and all-district as a junior and senior.... won four district and three regional titles in five years of baseball... was a three-sport athlete, also played basketball and competed on the golf team... tied school record for most varsity letters won (15) during career, including six varsity letters as a member of the golf team... once made school-record 10 three-point field goals in a single game.
