As a senior in 2012 – Received the OVC's Steve Hamilton Sportsmanship Award given each year
on the basis of significant athletics performance along with good sportsmanship
and citizenship... became 13th Govs player to reach 200-career hit plateau with
single in Game 3 of Morehead State series, May 12... ranks among APSU's career leaders
in stolen bases (2nd, 72), runs scored (7th, 146) and at-bats (9th,696)... ranked
among Division I leaders in sacrifice hits (6th, 20) and finished career with
program-record 34 career sacrifice hits... after opening 2012 campaign without a hit in first nine at-bats, went 1-for-4 at Georgia State, Feb. 24...posted consecutive 2-for-5, two
RBI efforts in second and third games of Georgia State series, Feb. 25-26... notched
season's first three-hit effort in 3-for-4 outing against Akron, March 4... had
two RBI in 1-for-4 outing at Alabama A&M, March 6... started four games in
left field for injured Cody Hudson, March 4-10... in first game as leadoff hitter
was 3-for-5 with RBI, a double and stolen base against Arkansas State, March 11...
was 2-for-5 at Memphis, March 13... opened Ohio State series with 2-for-5, two
RBI effort that included a double... was 2-for-5 with walk and three runs scored
at Lipscomb, March 20... was 3-for-11 at Southeast Missouri, March 23-25, with 3
walks and 2 sacrifice hits... held without a hit in first two games of UTM
series, but ended series with 2-for-5, two RBI outing that included a triple
that drove in eventual game-winning runs... was 2-for-8 in Govs series-opener at
Eastern Illinois, April 6... had a hit in each game of Murray State
series, finishing set with .286 batting average... hit second career home run -
first came during 2010 campaign - in Game 2 of Murray State series, April 14... did
not record a hit at Middle Tennessee, April 18, but did post sacrifice fly in
eighth inning... had three hits in Eastern Kentucky series, including 2-for-5,
RBI outing in series opener... recorded season's 2nd home run with 1st inning
two-run blast at Tennessee, April 24, and finished game 2-for-4 with two RBI,
HR and two walks... series included season's third three-hit contest in 3-for-4
outing against Jacksonville State, April 28... had five hits in Jacksonville
State series, his best performance in an OVC series this season... held to one
hit in SIU Edwardsville series, May 4-6, but walked three times and posted a
sacrifice fly... had six hits in Morehead State series,
including a 4-for-5, four RBI outing in the series' second game, May 12... hit
game-tying two-run double at Belmont, May 15, his only hit in a 1-for-4 outing...
only Govs hitter to record a hit in each game of Tennessee Tech series,
finishing set 3-of-11 (.273) with two RBI... batted only .100 with two RBI in OVC
Tournament but contributed with four sacrifice bunts... walked and scored game's
first run in Govs loss to Southeast Missouri, May 24... had game-tying RBI ground
out against Jacksonville State, May 25... had go-ahead RBI single against
Southeast Missouri, May 25 and scored eventual game-winning run in seventh
inning in 2-for-4, RBI outing... had a sac bunt to move Blanchard to second in
first inning of first game in championship round against Eastern Illinois, May
26 to set up first Govs run... had sac bunt to move Blanchard to second in first
inning and was hit by a pitch in Game 2 of championship round against Eastern
Illinois, May 27... batted .154 in NCAA Tournament's Eugene Regional with two
sacrifice bunts, recorded hits against host Oregon, June 1, and Cal State
Fullerton, June 3.
As a junior in 2011 – Clinard started 30 games (7 at 2B, 11 in RF and 12 in LF)… Preseason All-OVC selection at second base, but moved into outfield as season progressed… batted .328 with 18 RBI and 15 stolen bases… right knee injury largely created situation where he saw limited action in OVC play, appearing in 10 games and batting .290 with seven RBI… had three hits in the Murray State doubleheader, March 27, including an RBI single in the OVC opener… was 1-for-4 with RBI against Middle Tennessee, March 30… lone hit against Eastern Illinois came in series finale, also had sacrifice fly in series’ second game… went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two stolen bases against Belmont, April 13, and reached base in five of six plate appearances… returned to starting lineup (after one start in previous 12 days) April 17 with 2-for-5, one-RBI outing in Game 3 of Jacksonville State series… went 3-for-4 with 4 runs scored against Lipscomb, April 19… was 2-for-4 at Belmont, April 26… had a hit in three at-bats at SIU Edwardsville, April 22… had streak of four multi-hit games (April 17-26) during which he had 10 hits and .588 batting average… after being held hitless in series opener, came back with 2-for-4, four-RBI effort in Game 2 at Morehead State, April 30, prior to leaving game with injury in sixth inning… missed regular season’s final three weeks after tearing meniscus and undergoing surgery… returned to lineup in OVC tournament and was used as a pinch hitter… hit bloop single in first opportunity against Jacksonville State, May 27, stole a base and scored eventual game-winning run after being hit in back by throw home… also appeared in championship game against Jacksonville State, May 28, hitting a line drive out to warning track… batted .250 (2-of-8) with one RBI and two walks in NCAA Tournament’s Atlanta Regional… was 1-for-3 with RBI single and a walk against Mississippi State, June 4… was 1-for-3 at Georgia Tech, June 5.
As a sophomore in 2010 – Clinard was named second-team All-OVC… played in 52 games, starting 48 games at second base… hit .333 for the Govs, batting in either the leadoff or second spot all season… led the Govs, and ranked third among OVC base-stealers with 29 stolen bases… stole a career-high four bases against Evansville, March 16… season’s first three-hit performance came against Northern Illinois, Feb. 26… that outing started his season-long seven-game hitting streak which stretched to Mississippi, March 9… during stretch he batted .500 (14-28), raising batting average to .375… had a 4-for-5, one-RBI outing at Mississippi, March 9… began a six-game hit streak at Indiana State, March 23… streak was highlighted by 3-for-5 performance in opening game of Murray State series, March 27, and a 2-for-4 outing at Lipscomb, March 24… hit season’s only home run against Eastern Illinois, April 3… also tied his season-high with a three-RBI outing after going 3-for-6 in the same game… in OVC play, Clinard was second on the squad with a .361 average… recorded hits in all three games of series against UT Martin, highlighted by a 2-for-4, two-run performance.
As a freshman in 2009 – Clinard was named to the OVC All-Freshman squad as a shortstop… was the Govs’ top freshman with a .287 batting average, batting either leadoff or in the nine-hole all season… played 47 games, starting 38 contests at shortstop… stole 20 consecutive stolen bases before being caught in the Murray State series opener, May 15… promptly stole a pair of bases in the series’ second game and finished the campaign with 22 stolen bases – second-most in the OVC… got off to a slow start, not recording a hit in season’s first 15 at-bats (11 games)… broke hitless streak with 1-for-3 outing against Milwaukee, March 15… used a five-game hit streak – during which he batted .500 (10-of-20) and had six RBI – from March 29 to April 5 to bring average above .200 for first time… streak included 3-for-4, three RBI outing at Jacksonville State, March 29, and 3-for-5 performance against SIU Edwardsville, April 4… pieced together a six-game hit streak, April 11-21, and batted .458 with multi-hit outings at Morehead State, against Western Kentucky, at Memphis and at Vanderbilt… went 5-for-12 in Southeast Missouri series, April 25-26… one week later was 7-for-12 in Tennessee Martin series, including 3-for-5 effort in series opener, May 2… that series was part of a season-best seven-game hit streak during which he batted .333 and raised average to season-high .301 after UTM series… but saw streak end as he was held hitless in season finale at Murray State.

Played under head coach Travis Adams as a shortstop and pitcher for the Bears… finished his senior season with a .381 batting average with 35 RBI… on the mound, compiled a 9-3 record in 75.2 innings while pitching four shutouts… a three-time All-District 5-AAA selection and Chattanooga Times “Best of Preps”… named to 2008 TBCA All-Region 3 squad as a shortstop and a pitcher… helped lead the Bears to the 2008 District 5-AAA championship at the plate and on the mound.

Jonathan Louis Clinard is the son of Lecia Guill and Fred Clinard… born March 8… is engaged to former Austin Peay women’s golfer Catie Tucker… has two older brothers, Matt and Ryne… a mathematics major with a distributive teaching emphasis and a professional education minor.
