Career Recap: Austin Peay
As a
junior in 2010 - Harper played sporadically with 10 appearances spread
throughout season's final three months... finished campaign with eight starts and
compiled a 4-3 record and a 5.43 ERA... picked up season's first win at
Charlotte, March 13, going five innings and allowing one run on three hits,
striking out four... made season's best start against Centenary, March 20, going
six shutout innings and striking out a season-high nine batters to pick up his
second consecutive victory... picked up season's third win against Murray State,
March 27, after tossing 4.2 innings of seven-hit baseball... picked up season's
final victory against Jacksonville State, April 17, throwing 4.1 solid innings,
and giving up one run while striking out two... made late-season relief
appearance against Tennessee Tech, May 18, throwing one inning and striking out
two of the three batters faced.
As a
sophomore in 2009 - Harper led the Govs starting corps with a 4.12 ERA while
compiling a 4-3 record in 11 starts and three relief appearances... was 2-2 with
4.28 ERA in OVC play... opened season with 14 consecutive scoreless innings,
holding Lamar scoreless through 5.2 innings, Feb. 20; tossing 1.1 innings of
scoreless relief at Tennessee, Feb. 24; followed by seven scoreless innings
against Cleveland State, Feb. 27... recorded season's first victory against
Cleveland State, striking out four in seven innings as Govs posted first
shutout since the 2007 campaign... named OVC co-Player of the Week, March 2,
courtesy those performances... struck out six and allowed just three runs in
hard-luck loss at Mississippi, March 11... struck out season-high nine batters in
OVC-opening victory against Eastern Kentucky, March 21, allowing one run in
season-high 7.2 innings pitched... did not pick up a decision in next start at
Jacksonville State, March 28, after leaving with four innings pitched... recovered
to win next start against SIU Edwardsville, April 4, working around a
season-high 11 hits by surrendering only five runs in 6.1 innings... suffered
razor-thin defeats in next two starts as Govs offense sputtered, losing by a
3-1 margin at Morehead State, April 11, and by a 4-3 score against Tennessee
Tech, April 18... allowed a total of seven hits and two walks in those two
contests while striking out nine batters... missed three weekends following
Tennessee Tech contest due to injury... recorded a victory in his return - the
season's final weekend - picking up Govs final victory at Murray State,
allowing two runs on six hits in six innings of series' second game.
As a
freshman in 2008 - Harper made 19 appearances, with nine starts and 10 relief
appearances... compiled 3-4 record and 5.54 ERA... finished OVC play with 2-1
record and 5.00 ERA... first two appearances came as closer and Harper was 1-0
with a save... season's third appearance was a start at East Tennessee, where he
made a quality start, but did not receive a decision... followed that with
back-to-back relief appearances on March 10 against Bradley and Dayton, was
tagged for loss against Dayton after surrendering one run in 1.2 innings... returned
to starting role March 14 against Milwaukee, but suffered second consecutive
loss despite allowing only three earned runs (eight total runs) over 4.2
innings... left with no decision against Eastern Kentucky after allowing five
runs on six hits in 4.1 innings... picked up season's second victory, March 30,
against Jacksonville State after allowing one unearned run on six hits over six
innings... started against Morehead State, April 5, but made just five pitches
before leaving due to an arm injury and was out 17 days before next appearance...
that next appearance was start against Vanderbilt where he allowed five runs on
five hits over three innings... next three appearances came in relief, including
relief victory at Southeast Missouri, April 26... made season's seventh start
against Middle Tennessee, May 5, surrendering four runs on nine hits but
striking out five over 4.1 innings... was penciled in to make first weekend start
since April 5, but the Eastern Illinois series finale was washed out... instead
started in non-conference tilt at Lipscomb and had a rough night surrendering
four runs in 2.1 innings... returned to action four days later in regular-season
finale against Murray State, May 17, and lasted another 1.1 innings before
being pulled, trailing 3-1, in a game the Govs would lose 11-4... made relief
appearances in both OVC tournament contests... allowed one run but struck out two
batters in one inning against Southeast Missouri, May 21... threw 1.1 scoreless
innings of relief against Tennessee Tech, May 22.

Under
head coach Paul Mittura was a pitcher and shortstop for the Wildcats... named to
the Region 5-AAA and TSWA Class-AAA All-State teams... was the District 10-AAA
Pitcher of the Year, finishing his senior season with a 5-1 record, while
leading Clarksville to a District 10-AAA tournament championship... in 52.3
innings of worked, allowed 29 hits, walking 17, while fanning 99 batters... had
his season's best performance striking 17 batters in a nine-inning contest
against Dickson County, but lost to Vanderbilt signee and All-American Sonny
Gray, 1-0 in the region championship game.

Richard Harper is the son of Ralph and Karen Harper... born March 27... has a
younger brother, Reed (20), a sophomore on the Governors baseball team... majoring
in chemistry... father Ralph played second base at Austin Peay from 1978-81.
