As a junior transfer in 2009 – Gerler batted .171 with six RBI in 37 games played… started campaign at third base, making two starts, before moving to second base in switch with Chris Lewellyn where he made 23 starts before losing starting job… did not record a hit in first nine at-bats over season’s first six games… snapped streak with 2-for-4, three RBI performance in Iowa series finale, March 8… recorded a hit in next outing at Mississippi, March 10… had a hit in each game of the Eastern Kentucky series, finishing 3-for-8 with a double… was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a stolen base against SIU Edwardsville, April 4… lost starting spot after Morehead State series… made one appearance on the mound during season, throwing 1.2 innings of relief at Western Kentucky, April 28, allowing one unearned run.

Career Recap: Lincoln Trail College
Played under head coach Mitch Hannahs as a shortstop for the Statesmen… as a sophomore, batted .313 with 21 RBI and three home runs… as a freshman, batted .255 with 30 RBI and five home runs…  along with fellow transfer Ricky Marshall, helped lead the Statesmen to the 2007 Great Rivers Athletic Conference regular-season championship and Region XXIV tournament championship.… selected as a 2008 NJCAA Academic All-American.

Zachary Thomas Gerler is the son of Susan and Mark Gerler… born August 22, 1987… has five siblings, Shauna Henderson (31), Tim Gerler (27), Suzy Gerler (24), Micki Gerler (19) and Katy Gerler (15)… majoring in biology… played prep career at Francis Howell Central High School… drafted in the 31st round of the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
