Biography

Looking Ahead to 2009-10: Preseason first-team all-OVC selection after earning second-team honors in 2008-09...also named to 2009 OVC All-tournament team...made successful move from "sixth man" into starting lineup...aggressive player on both ends of court...owns tremendous court awareness and solid decision-making capabilities...has ability to control speed of game...strong player who is tremendously effective posting up inside...possesses good speed and quickness…has spent countless hours working on improving his perimeter game...also has dramatically improved free-throw shooting ability, going from 50 percent as a freshman to 77.6 percent a year ago...not afraid to attack basket…has improved defensively, reflective in steals totals rising nearly 20 during second season...played almost exclusively at off-guard or wing position as sophomore and junior after playing some point guard as freshman...enters season ranked 20th all-time in scoring with 1149 points...has opportunity to climb up several APSU all-time statistical lists in final season.

As a junior in 2008-09: Provided APSU with the second half of the OVC's top one-two scoring punch...his 16.5 ppg scoring average ranked seventh best in OVC...also ranked fifth in the OVC in free-throw percentage, shooting 77.6 percent...started all 33 games as a junior after starting 12 in first two seasons...led or was co-leading scorer 10 times...hit at least one threw pointer in 29 games and multiple three pointers 24 times...after getting off to a slow start at Evansville, bounced back with 25-point outing at Belmont, connecting on five-of-eight three pointers in comeback win...at one late-game stretch hit three straight long-range shots...also had five assists in contests...followed up with 17-point effort against Ohio...was perfect six-for-six at free-throw line against Lambuth in scoring 17 points...enjoyed superb  shooting performance at SEMO, connecting on 8 of 14 from the floor in scoring 20 points...also had five assists...scored game-high 23 points, including five-for-five free-throw performance at Louisville....had economical 13 points against Oakland City, going four of six from floor, including a trio of three pointers...tallied career-high 30 points, including six three pointers, at home against Morehead State while leading the team with four rebounds and four assists....scored 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists in home win against Eastern Kentucky...scored 16 points in final half...knocked down five of nine three-pointers and hit eight of nine from line for 23 points at Tennessee Martin....narrowly missed a double-double, with 16 points and 9 rebounds at Murray State...led Govs with 24 points, including two three-pointers down the stretch that secured the win at Tennessee State....led all scorers with 28 points at home against Tennessee Tech...also pulled down seven rebounds...backed that with third-straight 20-point game) against Jacksonville State... also had team-high four assists in contest...named OVC Player of Week for his 50-point, 16-of-26 shooting effort against Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State....recorded 16 points and matched a career-high with seven assists at Eastern Kentucky....suffered season’s worst shooting night  (2 for 14) at Morehead State...it was first time since season opener he failed to hit a three pointer....shooting slumped (4 for 15) continued at UT Martin...ended two-game scoring drought with overtime three pointer...broke out of shooting slump, hitting 7 of 10 from the floor at home against Murray State to finish with 22 points....also had five assists in game...began struggling with shooting in season's latter third...scored 16 points in win at Tennessee Tech and to with four assists....was just 3 of 13 from floor at home in loss to Tennessee State...matched season-low with only six field-goal attempts at Jacksonville State to finish with eight points, one of five single-digit scoring games...scored 12 points at Drake in the ESPNU Bracketbuster game...made start at point guard against Southeast Missouri, scoring 26 points and dishing out six assists...narrowly missed double-double against EIU in first-round OVC tourney action, scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds....tallied 17 points while grabbing six rebounds and collecting three steals in OVC tourney semifinal action against Murray State....finished with 16 points in OVC championship game...named to OVC all-tourney team...foul woes limited him to 11 points on CollegeInsider.com contest...

As a sophomore in 2007-08:  First man off bench for much of season...did start six early season games before returning to "sixth-man" role...one of five Govs to average in double-figures scoring wise...reached double figures 18 times...finished second on team in steals...got off to quick in second Govs season...scored in double figures in first six games...in fact, moved into the starting lineup in contest at Memphis, where he score 16 points in his trip home...then opened OVC season by knocking down 10 field goals en route to 25-point effort in road win at Tennessee Tech...as a result of those two performances was named OVC Player of the Week...scored single digits in two of next three games before it was decided to return him to "sixth man" role...proceeded to string together four straight double-digit efforts...endured three-game slump during early January before scoring 14 points against Southeast Missouri and 16 versus UT Martin...then slumped again before producing career-best 29-point effort against Murray State, going 8of-10 from the floor...knocked down career-best six three pointers in game...hit game-tying bucket prior to overtime and the proceeded to score 13 overtime points...followed that up with 17-point performance against Tennessee State before protracted slump saw him go seven straight games without scoring in double digits...opened OVC tourney with 12-point effort against Eastern Kentucky before scoring team-best 16 points against UT Martin...knocked down at least one three pointer in 24 games...has recorded 49 steals.

As a freshman in 2006-07:  Was valuable commodity in first APSU season...played in all 33 games...proved to be valuable reserve until moving into starting lineup for final six games following Kyle Duncan's knee injury...had five double-figure scoring efforts as a reserve and four more as a starter...got off to quick early start...scored seven points off bench in opener against Dayton and then had game-high 11 against Illinois in 28 minutes...secured seven rebounds at Arkansas State...also had five points in contest...with backcourt mates ailing, came off bench to score nine points against UT- Martin...also came off bench to score then career-high 17 points, dish out four assists and grab three steals at Jacksonville State...provided six points in nine minutes off bench against SEMO...again was solid off the bench against Murray State, providing nine points in just 11 minutes, including team's first three pointer in contest...had second strong outing against Jacksonville State, scoring 12 points...knocked down a trio of threes while also grabbing five rebounds...earned co-OVC Freshman of the Week honors after averaging 8.5 ppg in games against Jacksonville State and Samford...continued strong off-the-bench play with eight points and five rebounds at Southeast Missouri...was perfect three-for-three from floor, scoring eight points, against Eastern Illinois while dishing out career-high six assists...scored 14 points at home against Tennessee State, matching his career best with three steals...scored team-high 13 points in ESPN BracketBuster contest at Akron...moved into starting lineup after Kyle Duncan went down, making first career start against Eastern Kentucky...recorded season-highs in points (22), rebounds (8) and minutes (36) against Eastern Kentucky...was 9 of 13 from floor in game...had 14 points in each of the final two OVC tourney games...also grabbed seven rebounds against Samford in OVC tourney semifinal contest...averaged just 4.5 points per game, shooting just 28.1 percent from floor (making on 2 of 25 threes), in season's first 11 games...averaged 8.3 points per game over final 22 games, including shooting 48 percent from floor and 33 percent from three-point territory...averaged 11.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per outing in game's he started.
In high school: Played guard for Wes Henning at Ridgeway High School… as senior, was named all-district and all-region after averaging 17 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game… teammate of fellow Gov Ernest Fields… as junior played in same backcourt as Jordan Mincy, former guard at Kent State… as junior averaged 17 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in helping Ridgeway to Class 3A state title.

Personal: Computer technology major, internet and web technology specialization...member of Athletics Director's Honor Roll in spring...son of Denise Channels...born June 30, 1988...age 21.
