Sept. 1 vs. Cumberland, recorded season's only shutout as defense held Bulldogs without a shot... Sept. 13 at Florida Gulf Coast, made nine saves after facing 21 shots in the loss... Sept. 27 vs. Eastern Kentucky, recorded another nine-save performance holding the Colonels to a scoreless tie... 2008: Played in 17 games, starting 15, at goalkeeper... started the season as the No. 2 keeper, but after shutting out Lipscomb, Aug. 31, for Lady Govs first win, became the starter... was named the team’s Most Valuable Player... finished the season with 90 saves, which ranked fourth among conference goalkeepers... also ranked seventh in goals-against-average (1.41), sixth in saves percentage (.805), sixth in saves per game (5.29)... recorded six or more saves in eight games... had two games with 11 or more saves... Sept. 21 at Winthrop, had 11 saves in a loss, allowing the game-winner in the 110th minute... Oct. 3 at Morehead State, had nine saves as the Lady Govs played to a 1-1 tie... Oct. 5 at Eastern Kentucky, had eight saves while allowing three goals in a loss... Oct. 26 at UT Martin, recorded a career-high 13 stops in a 1-1 double-overtime tie.
2007: Played in 11 games as a defender, and made one appearance as goalkeeper... Oct. 9 vs. Lambuth, recorded first career assists for her season’s only point... Oct. 26 vs. Morehead State, Newman made her season’s only start... Oct. 28 vs. Eastern Kentucky, she played 84 minutes in the defense as the Lady Govs managed a 1-1 tie to end OVC play.
High School: Newman played as a midfielder and backup goalkeeper for St. Agnes Academy leading the Lady Stars to four region championships from 2003-2006 and the Division II State Championship in 2006... Newman helped the Lady Stars to a 23-0 record that year, as they outscoring opponents 122-2 on the season and finished ranked fourth in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association America... Newman also was a four-year captain on the West Tennessee Dragons club team... played two years for the Tennessee 89 Olympic Development Program team and was a goalkeeper for the West Tennessee Futbol Club from 2001-06. In 2006... Newman was selected to play goalkeeper for semi-pro Memphis Mercury.
Personal: Daughter of Terry and Meghan Newman... born Jan. 9, 1989... majoring in health and human performance, specializing in teaching... Named to the Athletics Director's Honor Roll three times (Fall 2007, Spring 2008 and Fall 2009), Dean's List twice (Spring 2008 and Fall 2009) and the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2007-08 year.
