Career Recap: Austin Peay
As a junior in 2013 – Made a plate appearance in 50 games and had 10 appearances on the mound… Began season and ultimately started 38 games at third base while also starting at second base and shortstop during season… Batted .220 with 17 RBI and ranked 28th nationally with 14 sacrifice bunts… Twice pieced together a six-game hit streak… Hit first home run as a Governor, March 10, in 3-for-3 outing against UALR… Had two game-winning RBI… Secured win at Middle Tennessee, Feb. 19, with RBI groundout… His RBI single at Lipscomb, March 13 provided Govs a win in their final at-bat… On the mound, finished with 2-2 record and 6.92 ERA in 13 innings… Picked up relief win at Memphis, May 14, with 2.2 scoreless innings and two strikeouts… Season’s second win came in next outing, a 2.1-scoreless inning effort against SIU Edwardsville that saw him strikeout four batters… Started Govs NCAA Bloomington Regional final at Indiana, June 2, and absorbed the loss.

As a sophomore in 2012, played at Chabot College for head coach Steve Friend and was a teammate of former Gov Craig Massoni… Posted 3-6 mark and a 2.77 ERA that was fifth-best in the Golden Gate League over 61.2 innings with 43 strikeouts… Struggled at the plate, hitting .207… As a redshirt freshman in 2011, played at West Valley Community College under head coach Josh Blount… Batted .269 with seven doubles in 35 games… On the mound recorded two saves in six appearances totaling 9.1 innings… Was signed by Cal Poly and did not play as a freshman redshirt.

Was a first-team All-Northern-California selection as a senior, where he hit .455 with a school-record 40 runs batted in… Named All-Santa Clara Valley De Anza Division’s Most Valuable Player… Selected Mercury News’ Senior of the Year… Batted .385 with 11 doubles at the plate and was 7-5 as a starting pitcher, striking out 50 batters in 67 innings as a junior… Earned first-team All-DeAnza League and second-team All-Central Coast Section honors as a junior… Was a shortstop and pitcher for head coach Brad Sanfilippo.
