As a junior in 2009 – Purcell saw limited time behind second-team All-OVC catcher Trey Lucas, appearing in 16 games and making two starts… batted .261 in that limited action with three RBI… made two widely-spaced starts during campaign, catching game three of Lamar series, Feb. 21, and midweek outing against Lipscomb, April 7… recorded a hit and RBI against both Indiana State, March 4, and Iowa, March 8, both as a pinch-hitter… recorded hits against both SIU Edwardsville, April 5, and Southeast Missouri, April 25, as a late defensive substitution… went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in season’s final appearance at Middle Tennessee, April 29.
As a sophomore transfer in 2008 – Purcell played in 26 contests, including 15 starts as Govs No. 2 catcher… batted .167 with six RBI, including .200 average in OVC play… recorded first APSU hit in second game against Valparaiso, Feb. 23… had season’s best night in second game against East Tennessee, going 1-for-3 with two-run home run… had a hit in start against Jacksonville State, March 30… had a four-game hit streak… was 1-for-3 with two RBI against Belmont, April 15, and followed that with an RBI and 1-for-2 outing against Tennessee Tech, April 19… walked and scored in lone plate appearance at Evansville, April 23, keeping hit streak alive… started second game of Southeast Missouri and went 1-for-4… started Tennessee Martin series opener and went 1-for-5, recording season’s lone stolen base… streak ended in second game of UTM series with 0-for-3 outing… made season’s final appearance with start against Murray State, May 17, going 1-for-3.

Under head coach Ken Campbell played 21 games as catcher… batted .415 with 14 RBI… his .732 slugging percentage included four doubles and three home runs in his 41 at-bats… transferred to Walters State after one year at Columbia State, where he received a redshirt.
