Career Recap: Austin Peay
As a junior in 2019

  • Only Govs player to start in all 57 games in 2019, with 41 starts in right field and 16 at first base.
  • Posted .316 batting average with 12 doubles, 25 home runs and 64 RBI while being hit by a pitch 21 times.
  • In OVC play, hit 15 home runs and had 36 RBI while batting .305 with a team-leading .454 on-base percentage thanks to 18 walks (seven intentional) and 14 times hit by pitch.
  • Named to OVC All-Tournament team after batting .471 (8-for-17) with a home run, two RBI and five runs scored.
  • Ended career by reaching base safely in 18 consecutive games and recorded a hit in each of his final seven games.
  • Recorded team-best 17 multi-RBI games, including a six-RBI day, two five-RBI outings and four four-RBI performances.
  • Hit 2019’s 20th home run at Tennessee, May 4, breaking the record he tied in 2018 with Nate Manning (1996).
  • His 41 home runs over his final two seasons would stand as the Govs career record alone.
  • APSU’s career leader in home runs (56) and times hit by pitch (56) and 12th Govs hitter to record 150 career RBI.

  • Became Austin Peay’s career home run leader in Southeast Missouri series finale, March 24. Hit a second-inning grand slam for 36th to tie the record. Finished day with two-out solo shot in ninth inning to break the record, going 3-for-5 with five RBI.
  • Recorded his first career outfield assist at Western Kentucky, March 19, gunning down a runner trying to stretch a single.
  • Drove in the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice in 10th inning of Govs upset of top-ranked Vanderbilt, Feb. 27.
  • Posted second career three-home run outing in 3-for-4, five RBI outburst in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Northern Illinois, Feb. 24.
  • Had 10 career multi-homer games. Posted his second career three-homer game against Northern Illinois, Feb. 24. Had a multi-homer game against five of the 10 OVC programs [UTM (3x), EKU (2x), SEMO, TTU, SIUE].

As a sophomore in 2018

  • Played in 53 games, starting in 52, with the bulk of his starts coming at first base (43) where he was the Govs opening day starter.
  • A Second-Team All-OVC selection at first base after batting .381 (10th in OVC) with 17 home runs (1st), a .943 slugging percentage (1st) and 44 RBI (2nd) in OVC play. His .943 slugging percentage led the league by 171 points.
  • Finished season batting .315 with 19 home runs. His 62 RBI were the eighth-most by a Governors' hitter while his .670 slugging percentage was the sixth-best mark in program history.
  • Selected to compete in the College Home Run Derby, June 28, at TD Ameritrade Ballpark in Omaha and advanced to the second round of the event.
  • Tied program record with 19 home runs, tying the record in Eastern Illinois series opener, May 17. Only sixth Govs hitter to record double-digit home runs twice during their career.
  • Had one home run in the season's first 21 games, hit 18 in the next 27 games, capped by the homer against Eastern Illinois.
  • Hit a home run in back-to-back games six times during the season, had back-to-back multi-home outings twice and a three-game home run streak once.
  • Had five home runs in a doubleheader against Eastern Kentucky, April 13, hitting three home runs in the opener followed by a pair in the nightcap. Finished series 8-for-13 with 12 RBI along with those five home runs and was named OVC Player of the Week.
  • Nearly hit for the home run cycle in the EKU opener, hitting a grand slam in the first inning followed by a solo home run and two-run shot as part of a 4-for-5, seven RBI game.
  • Followed that with a two-run homer and a solo shot in the April 13 EKU nightcap as part of 2-for-3, three RBI effort.
  • Had two home runs in back-to-back games in UT Martin series, April 27-29. Opened the series 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI. Followed that with a 3-for-4 outing that included two home runs, a double and three RBI.
  • The Eastern Kentucky and UT Martin series were part of an incredible 12-game hit streak that saw him bat .532 with 11 home runs and 26 RBI, bumping his average from .266 to a high of .347.
  • Led Austin Peay with 16 multi-RBI outings, including two outings of five-plus RBI, one four-RBI day and six three-RBI efforts.
  • Was batting just .231 at end of a season-opening cold stretch, but broke that stretch with a home run in three consecutive games, March 23-25.
  • Began that stretch with 3-for-4, five RBI burst in the second game of Tennessee Tech doubleheader, March 23. Followed with a home run in the TTU series finale before opening the Southeast Missouri series with a home run.
  • Missed two games after the Southeast Missouri series and was slow to get back into rhythm with just two hits in first four games of return but broke out with seven-RBI effort against Eastern Kentucky and did not look back.
  • Showed early glimpses of the season to be in the opening 21-game stretch, first off with six hits in Toledo doubleheader, Feb. 23, going 4-for-5 with two RBI in the series opener.
  • Hit season's first home run against Indiana State, March 2, a second-inning grand slam that was his lone hit of the day.

As a redshirt freshman in 2017

  • Saw action in 54 games, starting 52, and batted .328 with 12 home runs and 40 RBI. Led Govs in both slugging percentage (.613) and on-base percentage (.442) and his 49 runs scored were second most on the team.
  • Was hit by pitch 22 times during the season, breaking the program record set in 2012. In addition, his 12 home runs were the most by a Govs freshman, breaking a 20-year old APSU record.
  • Was Govs starting third baseman to begin season, but also made starts at catcher, designated hitter and eventually first base.
  • Injuries hampered him during OVC schedule which he finished with a .256 batting average but hit five home runs and had 14 RBI in 27 games played.
  • Hit first-inning grand slam against UT Martin, May 23, propelling Govs to win in OVC Tournament’s opening game, and finished game 2-for-2 with four RBI and was hit by a pitch twice.
  • Made season’s first start at first base against Evansville, May 10, and posted a 5-for-5 effort at the plate that included a solo home run, RBI single and eighth-inning RBI double that helped Govs secure win.
  • Went 3-for-4 the next day (May 11) against Lipscomb with a two-run home run and a ninth-inning RBI single that was the first run in an eight-run frame that saw the Govs rally for walk-off win.
  • Hit a game-winning two-run home run in eighth inning of Notre Dame series finale, May 14.
  • Named adidas® OVC Player of the Week, May 15, after finishing week batting .500 (10-for-20) in those contests against Evansville, Lipscomb and Notre Dame.
  • Began season red hot at the plate, batting .450 through the season’s first 11 games with six multi-hit contests in that stretch.
  • That opening stretch included a 7-for-13 performance in the Mercer series, March 3-5. Went 4-for-5 with two doubles in the series middle game before a 2-for-4, three RBI outing in the finale.
  • Had four RBI with the benefit of only one hit at Murray State, May 19, hitting a two-run home run in the first inning before driving in runs courtesy a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk.
  • Hit four home runs and had six RBI during the Tennessee Tech series, March 24-25, as he reached base in 11 of his 14 plate appearances. Went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the middle game of the set before hitting two home runs as part of a 3-for-4 outing in the series finale.

As a freshman redshirt in 2016

  • Did not play in first season at Austin Peay after suffering a lower-body injury during the preseason.

Career Recap: Collierville HS

  • Batted .389 with a .507 on-base percentage and 15 RBI as a senior at Collierville, earning Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association All-Region 8 and Memphis Commercial Appeal All-Metro honors
  • Batted .393 with eight home runs and 55 RBI as a junior, recording 41 walks against 27 strikeouts and was hit by pitch 26 times for a .532 on-base percentage
  • played first base as part of Collierville’s first TSSAA 3A state championship squad, earning 2013 All-State honors
  • named to the TBCA, Freshman/Sophomore State Team and its Showcase team as a sophomore and junior. Phillips also played in the Sunbelt Classic, helping the TBCA squad finish fourth in 2013 and runner-up in 2014
  • Prepped under head coach Jeff Hopkins
  • Played summer baseball for the Dulin Dodgers organization and coach Julian Henson.
