Career Recap: Austin Peay
As a senior in 2017

  • First player in Ohio Valley Conference history to receive five All-OVC awards (first and second team) during their career.
  • Finished career ranked second all-time in wins (28) and strikeouts (295) as a pitcher while his 268 career hits were third most by a Govs hitter.
  • Led Govs with .347 batting average in final season while setting career highs in hits (78), home runs (10), RBI (47) and stolen bases (11).
  • Named first-team All-OVC as a utility player after batting .336 in OVC play with six home runs and 27 RBI, each second on the team.
  • Capped career with OVC All-Tournament honor after batting team-best .471 (8-for-17) during the tournament.
  • Became only NCAA player to record a win as a starting pitcher, hit for the cycle and go 5-for-5 in the same game – accomplishing the feat against UT Martin, April 29. Was the first Govs hitter to post a cycle since 2005 and it was his first career five-hit outing.
  • Hit two walk-off home runs during season – a solo home run in the 14th inning of the Govs win against Jacksonville State, March 12, then a grand slam in the ninth inning against Lipscomb, May 10.
  • Had a hit and RBI in six consecutive contests, April 25-May 5, batting .500 (13-for-26) with 10 RBI as he pushed his batting average to .383.
  • Became 18th Govs hitter to join 200-hit club with a 3-for-4 outing at North Carolina State, Feb. 26, which capped a 7-for-12 weekend at the plate.
  • Named TSWA and adidas® OVC Player of the Week, May 1, after his 5-for-5 outing at UT Martin which capped a 10-for-18 week at the plate with seven RBI and three walks.
  • On the mound, made 23 appearances (10 starts) and finished with a 6-8 record, three saves and 85 strikeouts in 73.1 innings pitched.
  • Posted 5-6 record in 11 conference appearances (seven starts), striking out 56 batters in 52.0 innings pitched.
  • Notched his three saves in season’s final month: May 9 against Evansville, May 14 at Notre Dame and May 23 in OVC Tournament elimination game against UT Martin.
  • Notched wins in regular-season’s final two games at Eastern Illinois to secure Govs spot in OVC tourney. Struck out five over 3.2 innings in Game 2 outing that spanned two days. Returned same day to supply three innings of relief in Game 3 win.
  • Began season as Govs No. 1 starter and was in weekend rotation through season’s first half.
  • Highlight of that stretch was his second career shutout win against Jacksonville State, March 11, which saw him strike out 11 batters while allowing only three hits.
  • Also struck out nine batters twice in season’s first half: in 5.0 innings against Youngstown State, Feb. 17, and in 6.2 innings against Tennessee Tech, March 24.

As a junior in 2016

  • Appeared in 53 games and started 55 contests, including 15 as the Govs starting pitcher. Defensively, made three starts at first base and five starts at third base with 44 games started as the designated hitter.
  • Became first Govs pitcher since 2007 to record 10 wins in a season, notching 10th victory against Belmont in OVC tournament opener, May 25. Posted a 10-6 record with 4.67 earned-run average in 98.1 innings pitched.
  • Finished season with 89 strikeouts and became the sixth Govs pitcher to record 200 career strikeouts, reaching the milestone against Belmont, May 25. Ended junior season with 210 career strikeouts.
  • Also tied APSU’s career OVC wins record, notching 18th career league win at SIUE, May 13, tying the record set by Rowdy Hardy (2004-06)
  • Completed OVC play with a 7-3 record and 4.06 ERA, striking out 59 in 68.2 innings pitched. Ended season tied for league lead in conference wins and ranked 10th in ERA.
  • At the plate, he batted .317 with four home runs and 39 RBI – his third consecutive season with 39 RBI.
  • Enjoyed a stretch of eight consecutive games with a RBI – March 22-April 3 – driving in 14 runs in 40 plate appearances.
  • Was third on team with .320 batting average during OVC play, with three of his four home runs coming during the league slate.

As a sophomore in 2015

  • Appeared in 50 games, began season as designated hitter but ultimately started at each infield position in addition to 11 starts on the mound.
  • Two-way player doubled up on OVC hardware, earning first team honors as both a utility player and starting pitcher, becoming the first player in league history to receive multiple first-team awards in the same season.
  • In OVC play alone, compiled a 6-3 record and 3.61 ERA in 11 league outings, striking out 57 in 72.1 innings while limiting opponents to a .215 batting average. At the plate, batted .312 with three home runs, a team-best 22 RBI and 15 walks.
  • Was one of 10 finalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.
  • On the mound, compiled a 6-3 record in 16 appearances (11 starts) with a 3.31 ERA and 65 strikeouts in team-high 84.1 innings pitched while limiting opponents to a .216 batting average.
  • Started 2015 as team’s closer and had two saves in three relief appearances. Did not allow a run in those outings, pitching five scoreless frames. Moved into No. 1 role at start of OVC play and started all 10 OVC sets as Govs No. 1.
  • Led all OVC pitchers and ranked 45th nationally with three complete games, including nine strikeout performance at UT Martin, May 1. Other complete game outings came at Murray State, March 20, and against Belmont, April 10.
  • Notched six consecutive wins, March 27-May 1, lasting six or more innings in each victory while holding opposing batters to a .208 average.
  • In the six-game streak, helped himself at the plate, batting .351 (13-for-37) with 11 RBI and eight runs in games when he toed the rubber.
  • Also ended season ranked among nation’s top 50 in WHIP (49th, 1.01).
  • At the plate, hit .328 and tied for the team lead with 39 RBI. He also scored 31 runs with 16 extra-base hits (three homers).
  • Was second on team with 19 multi-hit games, while also compiling a 12-game hit streak twice during the season – the longest hit streak by a Govs hitter in 2015.
  • Recorded four hits in a single game for the first time in his career against SIUE, May 10, finishing 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.

As a freshman in 2014

  • Appeared in 55 games, starting in 54 of those contests; was a two-way player that was a starting pitcher and designated hitter on Fridays during OVC play then played third (29 starts), second (5), shortstop (1) and was the team’s designated hitter (10) on the other days.
  • Led Govs with a .349 batting average and also had 14 doubles, 39 RBI, a .450 slugging percentage.
  • Totals included a .328 batting average in OVC play and team-leading 24 RBI.
  • Posted team-best 21 multihit games, including five three-hit games, and was held hitless in only eight games.
  • Had an 11-game hit streak, Feb. 25-March 18, then one game later started another 12-game hit streak, March 22-April 6.
  • Ended season with a hit in eight of final nine games, batting .424 with 9 RBI in that span.
  • Went 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, two doubles against UT Martin, May 11, including game-winning RBI double in first inning.
  • Had 3-for-3 outing with three runs and three RBI against Southeast Missouri, April 11.
  • First collegiate hit came in 2-for-3 outing in season-opener against Iowa, Feb. 15.
  • His first-inning RBI double against Bradley, March 1, supplied the game-winning RBI and he was 1-for-4 in the contest.
  • Hit first collegiate home run as part of 2-for-4, RBI outing against Southern Illinois, Feb. 18.
  • On the mound, finished with a 6-2 record and a 3.63 ERA through 84.1 innings.
  • Made 16 appearances with 14 of them weekend starts, finishing with 56 strikeouts while limiting holding opponents to a .284 batting average.
  • In 10 OVC starts on the mound, posted a 5-1 record with a 3.29 ERA and 48 Ks, with wins against each of the OVC’s top three teams (Tennessee Tech, Southeast Missouri and Jacksonville State).
  • Batted .372 with 14 RBI as a starting pitcher.
  • Went seven innings in next start against Eastern Kentucky, April 25, with one earned run and a season-high 13 strikeouts.
  • Threw an one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and only two walks against Belmont, April 17.

Career Recap: Tucson High Magnet School

  • As a senior, selected to Louisville Slugger High School Baseball All-America second team after batting .505 with 29 RBI, recording 13 extra-base hits (.701 SLG) while on the mound he was 9-2 with 1.36 ERA, tossed nine complete games and struck out 71 batters over 67 innings.
  • Named Arizona Daily Star State Player of the Year, was Arizona Baseball Coaches Association Division I First-Team All-State honoree and selected to AZBCA Division I North All-Star Team.
  • Named 2013 Rawlings West Region Second Team by Perfect Game.
  • As a junior batted .393 with 21 RBI and was 7-1 with 2.68 ERA on the mound, recording 38 strikeouts in 52.1 innings.
  • Played under head coach Oscar Romero.
