Career Recap: Austin Peay
As a freshman in 2017

  • Saw action in various roles during first season, playing 21 games in the field and making 15 appearances on the mound. Started 11 games at third base for the Govs before ending season with two starts as a pitcher.
  • As a pitcher, posted a 3.45 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 28.2 innings pitched, including a 2.00 ERA and six strikeouts over his nine innings as a starting pitcher.
  • At the plate, finished season with .264 batting average, two home runs and eight RBI.
  • Ended year as Govs starting pitcher in opening game of OVC tournament, May 23, holding UT Martin to two runs over his four innings of work but did not qualify for the win.
  • Season’s first start saw him supply five scoreless innings at Lipscomb, May 16, striking out three batters.
  • As a reliever, his best performances came in his two longest outings, providing five scoreless innings with five strikeouts against SIUE, May 6, and four scoreless innings of relief at Murray State, March 18.
  • Began season off the bench as a late replacement at third base, but was pressed into starting role in season’s second weekend as injuries mounted.
  • Made a splash in his first collegiate start, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, including a three-run home run, in series finale at nationally-ranked North Carolina State, Feb. 26. His five RBI accounting for the bulk of the Govs seven runs in the game.
  • Also went 3-for-6 with a three-run home run in Govs series finale against Tennessee Tech, March 25.

Career Recap: Christian Brothers HS

  • Played infield and outfield and was a right-handed pitcher for Purple Waves head coach Buster Kelso.
  • Helped lead Purple Wave to back-to-back TSSAA Division II Class AA State Championship titles (2015 & 2016).
  • Batted .342 as a senior with 16 doubles. In addition, posted a 6-2 record on the mound with 2.90 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched.
  • In junior season, Kelly went 4-for-9 with two RBI and four walks in four state tournament games. Finished season with .382 batting average and .500 on-base percentage with 15 RBI and 21 runs scored. He also showed plate discipline with only 17 strikeouts in 131 at-bats.
  • Named to Commercial Appeal All-Metro Team as a junior and senior.
  • Played for Team Tennessee in the 2015 Junior Sunbelt National Championship and also played summer baseball with the Mid-South Gamers coached by Keegan Bumpous.
