2021

  • Played in 50 games, starting 48, primarily playing second base (41 starts) and seeing action at shortstop.
  • Led the Govs with a .335 batting average (8th in the OVC) and a .429 on-base percentage and was third with 10 doubles.
  • In league play, he paced APSU with a .368 batting average and .451 on-base percentage, finishing the season fifth in batting average and seventh in on-base percentage among league hitters.
  • Became the 20th Govs hitter to reach 200 career hits, reaching the milestone against Southeast Missouri in the opening game of the 2021 OVC Baseball Tournament.
  • Closed the regular season batting .459 (17-for-37) over the final nine games, including six multi-hit games.
  • Batted .417 (5-for-12) during the Murray State series, including a career-best four hits Game 2 of the set, then went 3-for-5 against the Racers in the OVC tournament.
  • Earlier in the season, he had three RBI in back-to-back starts: versus Belmont (March 27) and at Eastern Kentucky (April 2).

2020

  • Started 16 games during the season, 14 at second base and two in left field.
  • Opening Day starter at second base, finished season batting .273 with five doubles, 10 walks and 11 runs scored.
  • Provided two RBI and was 1-for-4 at the plate in Game 2 of Jacksonville series, Feb. 29.
  • Went 3-for-5 with a double and RBI against Evansville, Feb. 23.
  • Hit two doubles in 2-for-4 outing in Eastern Michigan series finale, Feb. 16.

2019

  • Appeared in 56 games, starting 53, and batted .271 with 13 doubles, four home runs, and 30 RBI.
  • Only Govs player to make starts at four different defensive positions (2B, 3B, LF, RF) and also had a start at designated hitter.
  • Closed season batting .412 (14-of-34) with four doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI over final 11 games.
  • Opened OVC tournament with 2-for-3, three RBI outing against UT Martin that included a home run.
  • Had three outfield assists during the season, two coming during Tennessee Tech series, March 15-17.
  • Batted .500 (6-for-12) during the Eastern Illinois series, driving in six runs. Opened series with 3-for-4, three RBI outing and followed it with 2-for-3, two RBI effort in Game 2.
  • Led Govs with .556 batting average (5-9) in SIUE series, including career-best four hits as part of 4-for-4 outing in Game 2 of series.
  • Saw 17-game reached base safely streak end in UT Martin series opener, April 20. He had 13 hits and 13 walks during the streak.
  • Scored four times and went 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and two walks against Southern Illinois, April 16.
  • Tied APSU single-game record with four walks against Lipscomb, March 5, going 0-for-2 with three runs scored.
  • Had two doubles and two RBI as part of 2-for-5 performance at No. 1 Vanderbilt, Feb. 27.

2018

  • Saw action in 48 games and made 40 starts, primarily at third base.
  • Finished season batting .294 with 20 RBI and 36 runs scored.
  • Made 27 consecutive starts at third base, March 9-April 24, and batted .290 during the streak with 27 runs scored and 16 RBI.
  • Ended the season with back-to-back two-hit outings in the OVC Baseball Championship, going 2-for-4 against Jacksonville State, May 23, followed by a 2-for-4 effort against Eastern Kentucky.
  • Batted .358 with 10 RBI and 18 runs scored during a 14-game hit streak that ended in Game 2 of the Belmont series, April 7. Saw his 19-game reached safely streak end against EKU, April 13.
  • Named ESPN3 Player of the Game in Kansas State finale, March 21, with a game-winning sac fly in the ninth as part of a 3-for-3 outing.
  • Had three RBI, including a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single, in Murray State series finale, March 18.
  • Went 2-for-5 with RBI in Jacksonville State opener, March 9, for his first multi-hit game of 2018.

2017

  • Fall walk-on started 23 of season’s final 25 games and finished season with 44 games played.
  • Batted .284 with two home runs, 18 RBI and 20 walks, finishing season with a .390 on-base percentage.
  • Was particularly effective in OVC play, batting .328 with 14 RBI in 20 games played, including 13 starts.
  • Breakout performance came in season’s fourth start with 2-for-5, six-RBI outing at Eastern Kentucky, April 15. Had a RBI in three-straight plate appearances: a three-run home run, a two-run single and a bases-loaded walk.
  • Had a hit in each game of the Eastern Illinois series, May 18-19, and batted .455 (5-for-11) with three walks (.571 on-base percentage).
  • First collegiate home run was a pinch-hit solo home run against Middle Tennessee, Feb. 28.

Prep Career

  • Was an infielder and pitcher for head coach Mike Goff at Chester County High School.
  • Member of 2016 Chester County squad that posted a 24-12 record and reached Class AA State Tournament after winning District 14-AA and Region 7 titles.
  • Batted .272 with four walks, two stolen bases and a double in four state tournament games. Also posted a complete-game victory in Chester County’s third game of the tourney, striking out three over seven innings against Christian Academy of Knoxville.
  • Was a 2015 All-Region 7 selection by Tennessee Baseball Report and a All-West Tennessee first team pick after batting .440 with 31 RBI and eight stolen bases.

Personal

  • Malcolm Devon Tipler is the son of Jerry and Marilyn Tipler and has two bothers: Jerry and Matthew.
