Played in 30 games, tying for a team-best 25 starts…Finished his career as a Governor with a program-record 87.4 free-throw percentage… Also ended his APSU career fourth all-time with 428-career assists, while his 3.6 assists per game throughout his four years at APSU are tied for 10th all-time… Led the Governors with 36 three-pointers, 107 assists and an 83.9 free-throw percentage… Had a season-high seven free throws on as many attempts in the season opener at North Carolina State... Dished out six assists in an eight-point performance against South Florida (Nov. 17)... Appeared in all 29 games, making 26 starts for the Govs ... led the team with 93 assists and finished the regular season ranking ninth in the OVC at 3.2 assists per game and sixth in assist/turnover ratio at 2.2 ... averaged 6.0 points and 2.6 rebounds while shooting 38.4 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the three-point line and 89.2 percent from the free-throw line ... registered eight games scoring in double figures and two games as the Govs leading scorer ... had 14 games with at least one three-pointer ... had six assists and seven points including a clutch three in APSU's victory over Dayton ... Notched a season-high 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field against Belmont ... neared a triple-double with 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists against SIU Edwardsville ... led the Govs with 13 points along with five rebounds, five assists and four steals in a home win over Eastern Illinois.
2020-21 (Sophomore)
Tallied 10 points against Carver in a reserve role… made it three straight games in double-digits with 11, including a pair of three-pointers, at Murray State… returned to the starting lineup against McKendree and posted seven assists and four steals… tallied 12 points and equaled his career best with six boards against Eastern Kentucky… put together one of the best outings of his Austin Peay career with 20 points and six threes against Belmont… equaled his career high with nine assists at SIU Edwardsville… led four Govs in double figures with 17 points in the UT Martin rematch… handed out eight assists in the Southeast Missouri rematch… hit 47.2 percent (25-for-53) from three from Dec. 30-Feb. 16 (13 games)… 4.5-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio over six games from Feb. 1-Feb. 13… called to carry an offensive burden in the regular season finale at Jacksonville State and equaled his career-high with 20 points, hitting 7-for-11 from the floor… made 37 consecutive free-throws from Jan. 2 through the end of the season… now owns the top two single-season free-throw percentage marks in program history after hitting 89.1 percent (49-for-55) from the stripe as a sophomore.
2019-20 (Freshman)
3.0-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio in 19 starts… Govs were plus-10 with Paez on the floor at Tulsa… scored 7 points and dished out 6 assists against Southeastern Louisiana… career-best 17 points included an 11-of-12 mark from the charity stripe against South Carolina State in 16 efficient minutes; earned OVC Freshman of the Week for this performance… perfect from the floor (6-for-6) and from three (4-for-4) finishing with 16 points and leading the Govs with a seven assists against North Florida; outing helped him earn second straight OVC Freshman of the Week honor – according to CollegeBasketballReference.com’s Play Index, he’s the first Division I player this season to post 100 percent showings from the floor (minimum six attempts) and from deep (minimum four attempts), and the first player to have those percentages in a game with seven or more assists since Eastern Illinois’ Terrell Lewis (Feb. 12, 2015 against the Govs)… made first start as a Gov against Duquesne… averaged 10.5 points on 50.0 percent (16-for-32) from the floor, 55.0 percent (11-for-20) from three and 89.3 percent (25-for-28) at the line from Nov. 25-Dec. 21 (six games)… notched 13 points, including a trio of three-pointers, in his OVC debut against Southeast Missouri… career-highs in steals (five) and added seven assists against UT Martin… his 16-point second-half at Jacksonville State was the catalyst for Austin Peay’s comeback win against the Gamecocks, earning him OVC Freshman of the Week honors… posted a career-high eight assists at Southeast Missouri… six points, seven assists and a career-best six rebounds against Tennessee State… made 14 straight free-throws over the season’s final 10-plus games.
Career Recap: Sunrise Christian Academy (Kansas)
A longtime staple on the international scene… represented Venezuela on its U14, U16 and U18 national teams, with the latter ranked 42nd in the world and 10th in the FIBA Americas standings in the most recent rankings compiled in December 2018… played an integral role for his country at the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championships, leading Venezuela in steals (12) and assists (13) while averaging 9.4 ppg in five games at the Argentina-based event… matriculated at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas, helped by former NBA guard Greivis Vasquez's foundation dedicated to helping Venezuelan basketball players find a school in the United States to ensure academic success and national athletic exposure… made the most of the opportunity, improving his stock not just in game situations but by breaking into a guard rotation featuring high-major commits Shereef Mitchell (Creighton) and Damerius Wash (Kansas State)… also generated interest through the Basketball Without Borders program, earning an invite to the 2017 camp in the Bahamas and making a return trip as the first-ever Venezuelan invitee to the 2018 world-wide program in Los Angeles; he was an All-Star at the 2017 camp and won the 3-point contest… impressed on the AAU circuit with MoKan Select, turning heads at the Nike Peach Jam Invitational during the summer of 2017.
