Joe Lincoln returns to the
Governors coaching staff for his second season as a volunteer assistant coach. He will
assist the Govs catchers while also aiding with the hitting and strength and
conditioning programs.
A well-regarded backstop
originally from Tipton, Mo. , Lincoln played both collegiately and at the
minor-league level.
He was twice drafted in the
MLB Amateur Draft. Lincoln was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the
48th round of the 2007 draft. He was then selected in the 34th round of the
2010 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Lincoln made his turn in
the Dodgers minor-league organization that summer, playing 15 games with the
Ogden Raptors of the rookie-level Pioneer League. He began this most recent
summer with the Dodgers' Arizona League affiliate before joining the Governors
coaching staff.
Lincoln began his
collegiate career at Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City, Mo. , where
he batted . 302 with 48 RBI as a freshman. He transferred to the University of
Kansas, playing one season and batting . 240 in 19 games as a sophomore.
However, it was his junior
season at Missouri Southern that captured the scout's eyes again as he led the
Golden Lions with a . 434 batting average while also blasting 11 home runs and
posting 53 RBI. Behind the plate, he posted a . 972 fielding percentage and caught
more than 30 percent of attempted base stealers. Lincoln was a second-team
All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association selection and an ABCA
All-South Central Region second-team honoree.
Lincoln enjoyed a decorated prep career at Tipton High
School where he was a three-time all-state selection and was ranked as the No.
3 prospect in Missouri by Perfect Game. Lincoln batted an impressive . 629 as a
senior with eight home runs, 51 RBI and 16 stolen bases.
