2022

  • Govs’ Opening Day starter at first base and made 36 starts, including 25 at first base and 11 at designated hitter.
  • Batted .264 with 12 doubles, two home runs, and 25 RBI in 40 games played.
  • Led Govs with 14 walks in OVC play while batting .316 with two home runs and 14 RBI.
  • Reached base safely in season’s first 18 games, extending his reached safely streak to 39 games – the fifth-longest streak in program history.
  • Opened season going 5-for-13 with two doubles and five RBI against Boston College (Feb. 18-20).
  • Suffered injury during the Lipscomb (March 9) game and missed 23 days for precautionary reasons.
  • Returned to lineup in Game 2 of Southeast Missouri series (April 2) and hit game-winning grand slam in seventh inning, finishing game 1-for-3 with a walk, home run and four RBI.
  • Posted second four-RBI day against Eastern Illinois (April 15), going 3-for-5 at the plate.
  • Opened the SIUE series (April 22) with a 2-for-3 effort that included a double, home run, and two RBI.
  • Closed the regular season with a five-game hit streak (May 14-21) with six hits, a double, a triple, and three walks during the streak.

2021

  • Opening Day starter at first base and played 40 games, starting 39, with 29 starts at first base.
  • Missed nine games to begin May and returned to start final nine games at designated hitter.
  • Finished the season batting .312, third on the team, with 28 walks and a .424 on-base percentage that was second on the team.
  • Posted 19 walks in 23 OVC games, finishing the league slate with a .309 batting average and .436 on-base percentage.
  • Went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Govs’ OVC tournament opening game against Southeast Missouri.
  • Had 4-hit day against North Alabama (April 27), supplying a walk-off single as part of a four-RBI day.
  • Led Govs with .385 batting average (5-for-13) at UT Martin (April 16-17), including a 3-for-5 outing to open the series.
  • Had three multi-hit games in a five-game span (March 20-27), going .333 (6-for-18) at the plate.
  • Led Govs with 3-for-5, four RBI effort in victory against Army (Feb. 28).

2020

  • Was Govs’ Opening Day starter at first base but was injured in season’s first at-bat and did not return.

2019

  • Saw action in 41 games, starting 34, primarily at first base
  • Ended season by reaching base safely in 12 consecutive games, recording 10 of his season’s 17 walks during the streak.
  • Batted .289 with three home runs and 14 RBI but was one of many Govs who enjoyed an impressive second half, batting .381 with three home runs and eight RBI in the second half.
  • Was third on the team with a .320 batting average in OVC play, including all three of his home runs.
  • Closed Jacksonville State series with 2-for-3 outing that included a walk, a double and his third home run, May 18.
  • Posted two doubles in a 4-for-6 performance at Eastern Illinois, May 11, driving in a run and scoring once.
  • Had back-to-back two-hit outings to begin Jacksonville series, May 3-4, going 2-for-4 with two RBI in the opener before following it with 2-for-3 outing that included a double, a walk and a stolen base.
  • Provided three RBI in Govs win against Middle Tennessee, March 26, courtesy a bases-clearing double in a 1-for-4 outing.
  • Opening day starter at first base before missing eight games beginning Feb. 17, due to upper body injury. Returned to starting lineup briefly in Murray State series opener, March 10, and was 1-for-4 at the plate and did not return to starting lineup fully until March 19.

2018

  • Saw action in 35 games, starting in 18 contests primarily at designated hitter, in his first season as a Governor.
  • Made 14 starts as designated hitter, three at first base and one start at third base. All three starts at first base came in consecutive games, April 4-7. Made season’s lone third base start at Middle Tennessee, April 24.
  • Was frequently used off the bench, with 17 games and 21 at-bats off the bench. Finished season second on the team with six RBI as a reserve.
  • Had three three-hit outings during the season, beginning with a 3-for-5 collegiate debut against Illinois, Feb. 18.
  • Also went 3-for-5 with four RBI at Southern Illinois, April 4, an outing that included his first collegiate home run.
  • Posted season’s third three-hit outing against Lipscomb, May 8, going 3-for-6 with a double and his season’s lone triple.
  • Oddly, his first RBI of the year were provided without a base hit and he scored in five consecutive appearances, Feb. 20-March 3, in which he reached base without the benefit of a base hit.

Prep Career

  • Played third base for head coach Derek Irons at Oak Mountain High School.
  • Two-time honorable mention all-state selection (2016 and 2017) and two-time Birmingham All-Region selection by AL.con.
  • In senior year, batted .350 with school-record 45 RBI and four home runs, leading Oak Mountain to Alabama Class 7A quarterfinals for a second consecutive season.
  • Batted .388 with eight doubles and 31 RBI as a junior to help lead Oak Mountain to Alabama Class 7A quarterfinals and a 28-14 record.

Personal

  • Son of Jason and Natalie McDonald and has two older brothers: Carson and Blake.
  • Birthday is July 15.
  • A finance major with an economics concentration.
