Career Recap: Austin Peay
As a senior in 2012 – Toney appeared in 17 games, starting 14 contests, and ended campaign with 5-3 record and 3.10 ERA... was a First-Team All-OVC honoree after compiling a 4-1 record and team-best 2.12 ERA in seven league starts, striking out 43 over 46.2 innings pitched... also earned OVC All-Tournament team accolades after making two appearances in tournament and posting a save in championship game to finish with 0.82 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 11 innings... ranked among Division I leaders in hits allowed per nine innings (54th, 6.97) and strikeouts (92nd, 86)... notched win in season's first start against Illinois State, Feb. 18, throwing five scoreless innings and striking out five... suffered season's first loss in six-inning outing at Georgia State, Feb. 24, permitting six runs on eight hits over six innings... allowed two unearned runs in messy outing against Iowa, March 10, surrendering two hits, walking six and striking out five... suffered worst career start, allowing eight runs over 3.2 innings against Dayton, March 10, for season's second loss... threw scoreless inning of relief against Evansville, March 14... held Ohio State to two runs, while striking out a then-career-high eight, March 17, but did not earn decision as Govs won in 10 innings... threw scoreless inning, striking out two, against Western Kentucky, March 21... picked up season's second victory after striking out career-high nine batters in 6.0 innings at Southeast Missouri, March 24... missed UT Martin and Eastern Illinois series due to upper body injury... returned from two week hiatus, April 14 against Murray State, and allowed one run over five innings while striking out four... held Eastern Kentucky hitless through 5.2 innings in Game 2, April 22, before allowing a back-to-back two-out singles - the latter scoring a run - and finished game with six innings pitched, striking out seven... named adidas® OVC Pitcher of the Week, April 30, after holding Jacksonville State to no runs and one hit over eight innings, April 27, recording eight strikeouts... surrendered a first-inning run at SIU Edwardsville, May 4, but did not allow another run until back-to-back doubles in the seventh and finished outing allowing three runs on eight hits over six-plus innings... threw Austin Peay's first shutout since 2007 and held Morehead State to two hits while striking out a career-high 10 batters, May 15... surrendered four runs over 6.2 innings in Govs shutout loss at Tennessee Tech, May 17... did not earn decision in start in tourney opener against Southeast Missouri, May 24, despite allowing only one run on five hits while striking out seven over seven innings... recorded season's first save (third career) when he retired all 12 batters he faced, including four strikeouts, in Govs' championship-clinching win against Eastern Illinois, May 27... started in Govs NCAA Tournament opener at Oregon, June 1, allowing four runs on 11 hits over 5.2 innings, but did not factor into decision.
As a junior transfer in 2011 – Toney appeared in 19 games and started a team-high 15 contests… his 15 starts ranked 93rd among Division I pitchers… named second-team All-OVC as a starting pitcher… compiled a 6-3 record, two saves and 4.72 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 76.1 innings… was unbeaten in seven OVC starts, posting 3-0 record and 4.26 ERA… began season with relief appearance in Valparaiso series finale, Feb.  20, retiring all 12 batters he faced, striking out seven in four innings… named OVC “Pitcher of the Week,” Feb.  21… made season’s first start against Illinois State, Feb.  26, facing 15 batters in two-plus innings but did not factor into decision… recorded season’s first victory in Eastern Michigan nightcap, March 4, allowing one run and striking out seven over five innings… suffered season’s first loss after allowing four runs in 4.2 innings at Arkansas State, March 11… charged with season’s second loss after allowing five earned runs over 5.2 innings at Illinois State, March 19… was inconsistent in start against Eastern Illinois, April 3, surrendering five walks in 3.1-inning outing… appeared in relief at Middle Tennessee, April 6, picking up victory with 1.1 scoreless innings… notched second win in less than a week with six-inning, seven-strikeout outing against Eastern Kentucky, April 10… retired nine of first 11 batters he faced against Jacksonville State, April 17, but did not earn a decision, despite allowing just two runs over 6.1 innings… threw four innings in start at Belmont, April 26, permitting one run (on a solo home run) on four hits while striking out three… started at Morehead State, May 1, on four days rest and lasted 3.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits… struck out a season-high-tying seven batters en route to victory against Tennessee Tech, May 8… notched second-straight winning start against Southeast Missouri, May 15, as he limited Redhawks to three runs over seven innings, retiring 12 of final 13 batters faced… held UT Martin to two runs over six innings, May 21, but Govs surrendered lead late and left him with a no decision… was winning pitcher in Govs championship-clinching victory against Jacksonville State, May 28, allowing three runs over 6.2 innings… made two appearances in NCAA Tournament’s Atlanta Regional… recorded season’s second save in Govs victory at Georgia Tech, June 3, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and striking out three of the four batters he faced… tagged for five runs over 2.1 innings in start at Georgia Tech, June 5.

Career Recap: Jones County JC
Under head coach Christian Ostrander, led the Bobcats with a 10-1 record and 2.67 ERA as a sophomore… made 19 appearances, including 13 starts, throwing 77.2 innings… threw four complete games and also recorded a save… allowed just 72 hits, struck out a team-best 85 batters… was a first-team All-Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges selection and led team to school-best 33-16 mark.

Zachary Lee Toney is the son of Roger and Joann Toney… born March 20… has two sisters: Carol (23) and Cassey (17)… prepped at D’Iberville High School… a psychology major.
