Hayden Coffman

Hayden Coffman enters his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team.

In Coffman’s four seasons the Governors have garnered a pair of First Team All-OVC selections, with Kirstin Robertson earning these honors in 2017 and Claire Larose in 2019. The Govs have also had five Second Team All-OVC selections and a trio of OVC All-Newcomer selections.

After the graduation of Mary Parker Powell, Coffman was tasked with preparing junior Peyton Powell and sophomore Chloé Dion – a pair of goaltenders who had never started a collegiate match – for the delayed 2020 season. Despite their lack of in-game experience, Peyton Powell and Dion became one of just two pairs of OVC teammates to each record 20 or more saves during the 2020 season.

During Coffman’s first three years at Austin Peay, goaltender Mary Parker Powell was his main pupil, as she started all but two games in net for the Govs. With Coffman’s tutelage, Mary Parker Powell became the second-winningest goalkeeper in program history; she also ranks second all-time in shutouts (11) and third in saves (207). In Coffman’s third season, the Governors goaltenders posted a combined three shutouts and the team made its second trip to the OVC Tournament during his tenure.

When long-time head coach Kelley Guth resigned after Coffman’s first season as a Governor, he joined new head coach Naomi Kolarova’s staff for the 2018 campaign. The Govs won eight matches in 2018, with six of them being shutouts by Coffman’s goaltending unit, but narrowly missed a second-straight trip to the postseason.

In Coffman’s first season at Austin Peay, the Governors goaltenders posted a combined four shutouts en route to an 8-7-3 record overall. Coffman’s first season on the sidelines saw the Govs qualify for the OVC Tournament for the seventh time in program history, but they fell to Southeast Missouri in the opening round.

Coffman serves primarily as the goal keeper coach and has extensive experience both on the pitch and on the sidelines. He currently serves as Director of Goalkeeping with Tennessee United Soccer Club, and from 2015-16, worked as a goalkeeping instructor at CPS Soccer Academy.

Coffman continues to play at an elite level, and has represented Inter Nashville FC in the National Premier Soccer League, since 2015. Prior to that, he spent two seasons as captain for the Southern California Seahorses in the Premier Development League, leading the league in saves and minutes played in 2014.

Coffman got his coaching start at his alma mater, Trevecca Nazarene University, assisting with the women's program in its record-breaking 16-5-3 season in 2012. As coach of the goalkeepers, Coffman oversaw a unit that recorded 15 shutouts and posted a 0.50 goals-against average, reaching the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCCA) Final Four. Bekah Headrick earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors and NCCAA First Team All-Region for her standout season under Coffman's tutelage.

He also spent two seasons coaching men's goalkeepers at Trevecca, with Braydon Brown earning G-MAC Honorable Mention honors.

Coffman was a four-year starter and three-year captain for the Trojans from 2008-12, leaving school with six school records and a first team All-TranSouth nod in 2010.

Coffman completed his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in 2013. He holds NSCAA National Goalkeeping Licenses in Levels 1, 2 and 3, and a TN State ‘D’ Coaching License. He resides in Hendersonville with his wife Kelsey, they have two sons, Hudson and Houston.
